I have ordered the suggested replacement for the notoriously expensive windshield trim clips, the 928 559 285 02.
They are similar but not identical. The original clips had a slit and as I understand correctly, could be slit on the metal studs on the body.
The new ones just have a hole. How can you get the new ones on?

Sounds like a mix-up, and you have wrong parts.
Here's an OE 924 clip. Got pics of what they sent you?

I could imagine that you can push them on:
If I remember it was actually you, Smoothie, how suggested these as the replacement for the original clips. _________________ 1983 NA Alpineweiss since 2001

Well, I only relayed information from Pelican's site in 2006 that suggested a supercession to the 928 part. I wasn't positive, so said it -may- be a replacement for the 924 clip. In any case, since you have them, pop one o' them suckas on and see if it might work - push the clip alone onto one of the studs to see how that goes, then remove and check the clips' fit into the trim piece... _________________ "..it's made in Germany. They look the same as what I got from the dealer a few years ago. They also look the same as what came off the car before it was painted. The originals were held by a small solid rivet IIRC. Fearing that aluminium would corrode faster, used stainless "POP" rivets to attach new ones. The depression is not that deep and recall either using countersunk rivets or removed the pin and ground down the radiused head slightly so that the head did not interfere with the aluminium trim. Sure you`ll understand what I mean if you place a rivet in the hole and sight it up. Oh yea, might have needed small 2.5mm or 3.0 rivets too as think 1/8" (3.2mm) was too large without enlarging the hole. |

Yes, the Pelican site says the clip is used for both cars. I will just try.
And they were relatively cheap, so not the end of the world _________________ 1983 NA Alpineweiss since 2001

So no popping on you think? Removing the rivet is required? _________________ 1983 NA Alpineweiss since 2001

They don`t appear to be able to simply clip on like the ones Smoothie posted. Interestingly, my car is 77 that had the same as above originally fitted with a solid rivet/ pin. Some pins were rusted and broke easily. All heads were removed and the shank punched through, eventually ending up on the floor.
Being a bitza perhaps they simply used the 928 parts on the early cars. Then produced the clips Smoothie pictured for the 924s. Now they are all obsolete/ NLA Porsche reverted to supplying the 928 ones. Just a guess, who really knows? But they were dealer supplied, probably have the old ones in the bag somewhere with the replacement P part # on it. |

So I finally tried
Not a chance, the pins are WAY bigger than the hole in the clip. So this is nowhere near a replacement for the expensive clips, unless you want to remove the pins and rivet the clips on. _________________ 1983 NA Alpineweiss since 2001

I would think you could leave the old post/s in place, and pop-rivet the new one/s nearby.. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
