Back up a bit on the pics - I can't tell where they were taken. I assume those are the fill pipe and vent hoses from the filler neck area?
My first 924S (the white one) smelled pretty bad after filling it up, but the current one (red) does not stink at all after fill up.
Try Clark's Garage also for ideas on a fix:

I have found that alot of the time the hose clamps get loose and cause slight leaking. Especially the filler tube hose clamps. I suppose the clamps dont get loose so much as the rubber shrinks a little making the clamp loose. Another area to pay close attention to is the fuel level sender gasket. I have has alot of trouble with these buggers leaking and causing fumes to enter the cabin.
In the picture of hoses the biggest hose is the filler tube hose. The bigger of the small hoses is a vent hose which goes to a triangular in cross section, plastic tube that rests on the top of the tank and then to the left side of the tank. The smallest hose goes to a nipple on the right side of the top of the tank and I believe is an overflow hose.
I have had 4 924s/ 944 gas tanks out and have yet to see hoses deteriorated to the point of leaking through the side. It has always been loose hose clamps or a bad fuel level sender gasket if that means anything to you. I would simply tighten things down, fill the tank and check for wet spots and fumes. |

Bet your tank is cracked, like John's above. Time to install an updated plastic tank. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I have a plastic tank I (actually, my wife) would love to get rid of, since it won't fit on the early 924. I'll have it at the swap meet in Omaha, if anyone's interested. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |
