Nice weather..nice roads...did some "rice" racing with an RX8...but only on short distances so first, second and maybe a bit of third.
started as equal...first gear equal, second equal until boost came strong and i got just a bit of advance then third..where the boost would have really made a difference...but we ran out of road
just looked the RX8 up, preety impressive on paper.
231HP and 6.4s 0-100Km/h
forgot to menion the obvious...i was driving my red 924 turbo. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

I raced a Boxster off the lights on my pushy. Had him for the first 15-odd feet, too... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Don't know the year but it was a non-S 986, not a 987.
Nah, it's just something fun to do. Not many drivers launch their car hard in regular traffic. It's entertaining to line up next to sports car drivers (especially when they have their gf in the car) and then sprint away from the lights. You gotta make a big show of it, like a kid on a BMX, pedal furiously. Almost guaranteed they'll come screaming past once they get hooked-up
They're all, like, "WTF?! This bloke on a pushy just dusted me off the lights!" _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I seem to outdo everyone I run into that wants to "race". Not that it's something I like to do, infact I find it pretty damn annoying when some corvette or mustang pulls up next to me and revs their engine thinking their hot shit, and then I peel out way past them and I lose sight of them in my rear-view mirror. That is pretty lame... Not to mention I'm driving a 5-speed against a lame automatic. Either my 4 cylinder get's a lot better acceleration than a V8, or they are just chicken shits. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924- Snailshell

I just don't understand this attitude. I mostly hear this from youngsters concerning what IS a fast car or not. Look... before modern cars that utilized the latest computer technology, engineering techniques and emissions optimizations that were honed over the past 30 years, 6.3 seconds to 60 was considered quite fast and it stayed that way for a long time. Just cause a 450hp Camaro SS can make it to 60 in 4.7 seconds that doesn't make an RX8 (or a 30 year old 924 Turbo) a joke. When every manufacturer can make stupid amounts of cheap power and put it into every friggin family sedan on the road the whole IDEA of what's fast and what's not becomes the joke.
I think the better attitude these days is... Wow!!! That 30 year old 924 Turbo just hung with your bland, computer designed, mass manufacturered, technology ripping off, poser mobile. Jeez new cars suck balls!!! _________________ 1981 931 CGT replica, OEM CGT intercooler, .8 BAR WG spring, GTS Headlights, Innovative Wide band A/F, A/C delete, 16" Fuchs, Weltmeister 200lb lowering springs, Bilstein HDs front, Koni Sport rears. |

Impressive is a 3,042lb 1982 Audi 200T 4 door sedan with 4 adults doing 0-60 in 7.9sec... That is impressive!
Stop light starts were great too because you could spool the turbo before you let off the brakes... can't do that in a new car.
Sure do miss my ole 200T. _________________ 1980 Turbo

Sorry, it does make it a joke, to me at least, especially for an RX8 from Mazda. For a 30 year old stock 4 cyl Porsche, it's fine... for stock. And I'm no youngster at 38, I embrace old technology as well as new. As for older cars being impressive vs new, there's no difference as long as you take advantage of some of the newer technology. Keeping things stock is for collectors, not me.
As for what's fast then vs now, I had a modified Chevette in high school with a 180-200 horse 2.3 liter out of a Vega (added Comp cam, 390 CFM 4 barrel Holley, long tube header, head porting to make those estimated numbers) and it did 0-60 in under 6 seconds back in 1985. Know what? It still wasn't fast. Back then, my friend's 400 4bbl '74 Grand Prix was faster at under 5 seconds to 60. We both beat up on many of the "rich kid" cars, but our shop teacher's '69 Camaro was faster than the both of us. Someone's always faster...
I for one, enjoy having two of the fastest 4 cylinder cars ever produced. 30 years apart or not. _________________ '80 924 Turbo - SOLD!
