Hello again, after a few rough weeks at work I was finally able to spend some quality time with my new 924. (Pics coming soon) I've recently come across a very annoying quirk in my headlights, and any input would be greatly appreciated.

Occasionally when I turn them on, they raise all the way up, then drop about 3 inches. After a few "off and on" battles, it will stay up where they are supposed to be. Other times I turn them on and they continually move up and down rapidly until I remove the key.

Fuses are okay, and I followed as much of the wiring I could, that seems okay. I thought about adjusting the lights themselves, but didn't want to blind everyone around me when they do sit at the right spot. Any suggestions?

Check the relay, it's mounted to the passenger side motor under the rubber cover.

I had a similar but lesser problem.

Easy bit: Check the plug and socket on the raising motor. Check it's not loose and that all the pins are securely mounted in the plug. And also that the relay is secure in the socket.

Harder bit: pull the motor and clean the switching disc. This is easier than it sounds.

1. Leaving the lights down, unplug the socket on the raising motor.
2. Unbolt it from its bracket and from the raising arm.
3. Pull the rubber boots off. The big one over the gearbox is going to seem impossible, but it stretches more than you would think. Just don't tear it.
4. Now you can pull cover off. Carefully: you don't want anything to fall out.
5. The disc will accumulate grease over time, which is great for lubrication but terrible for conduction. Clean the grease off the tracks and the contacts. Don't turn the disc if you can help it, but it's not that important if you do.
6. Put it all back together.

I found that if you do turn the gear box at all, then the second-last thing you do is plug the socket back in and the last thing you do is put the bolt back in to the raising bar. This lets the motor reset it's position to where it thinks is fully lowered before you bolt the raising bar back on.

I don't have pics, sorry.

Wade.

I have had problems to, they were all solved by changing the headligth switch. The same solution for a friend of mine which also had popup problems on his 924.

I know its no help to your problem...

But years ago, I had a Lotus Elite 501, (yeah the rep for Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious is true !)

During a slow crawl to work one day, Nearside light pops up, flashes, goes down, followed by Offside light, pops up, flashes, goes down...repeatedly for a couple of miles. At which stage, woman in car in front, gets out, comes to my car, hammers on hood, then drivers window, and screams at me accusing me of harrasment...
