|
|
Okay, so I replaced the 3 intake hoses, as the old ones were swelling up and causing air to leak.
I placed the new ones on snug and fit, but when I started the car up and gave it some gas, I got a very loud popping sound (which has happened once before). Then I noticed that the boot hose that goes over the mixture plate had an extra outlet for what looks like another vacuum hose placement?
However my last piece did not. So should I end up blocking this other open piece?

This here is the piece that I ordered. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924- Snailshell

I think that goes to the PCV system on the later cars.
So if you don't have that line, then you should plug it off with a proper sized bolt (trim the bolt off flush if it bothers you) some sealant and a clamp. _________________ Stefan

Okay, I got that down.
However (and this has been happening off and on for awhile) I need to sort this other situation out as well.
Frequently while attempting to fire up the car, it will not go. I turn the key and wait till I hear the starter, then I give it a little gas. It will go up to about 2 RPM and then it will die?
Then, sometimes (but not always) if I try again, it just will not start up no matter what I do, so I have to constantly try until she does fire up. What is going on here? _________________ 1979 Porsche 924- Snailshell

Is it the starter that isn't working or the engine itself isn't starting?
If it is the starter, then you may have a bad ground strap or more likely a bad positive battery cable/dead starter.
I would measure the length of the main cables that leads from the alternator, to the starter, to the battery. You just need to be close, longer is better than shorter. Take that measurement and go to the parts store and find replacement cables in similar lengths to replace the ones on the car.
Obviously, if the cables don't fix the problem, then your starter is on the way out (need brushes probably) and you can remove it before you go to the parts store can have them test it if they have the capability to do so.
Otherwise, it sounds like you'll have to look into the typical CIS/Engine electrical issues that are all over this board. Start with getting a CIS fuel testing rig, then download the CIS troubleshooting guide and dig in to find the problem.
Good luck _________________ Stefan
