Finally made the decision to go with fiberglass rockers, ordered a pair from Infinite Fiberworks about a week ago and installed them on Friday.

*Edit* Almost forgot... 2 weeks ago I lowered the rearend by adjusting the eccentric bolts. (The instructions available on the boards say you'll need a 36mm socket to turn the eccentric bolt but unfortunately there isn't enough clearance to fit the socket on the bolt... so what you actually need is an open face 36mm wrench.) Also, you'll need some penetrating oil, a torch, a breaker bar and a bunch of swear words to get the locking and eccentric nuts free.

I still have a bunch of work left to do.

1. Will be ordering a Deutsch Nine GTS headlight kit this week, which will be promptly installed upon arrival.

2. AIR CGT scoop is on the way, which will then be mated to the fiberglass hood waiting in may garage.

3. Installation of stainless steel hood pins

4. Shave the rear reflectors!

5. Lots of detail work, such as, ding and dent repair, filling the holes in the euro bumper and glassing the rear flares in place.

6. Prep for a full re-spray.

Looks great.

Maybe I missed it but did you make a thread on the rear flare install?

Nice! But did you say that if you had to do it all over again, you'd leave it a slim-line version? Why?

Because its time-consuming, takes a lot of work and its expensive.

I did long ago but it wasn't really technical. I actually epoxied stainless bolts into the inside lip of the flares so they are currently removable. There is access to all the strategic points needed to attach them with nuts and bolts. Essentially you mock up the flares, drill holes directly through the flare and the outside fender wall, install the bolts, tighten them down, (make sure you've cleaned them with some acetone) epoxy the bolt heads to the inner flare lip and let them set overnight.

Remove the flares, reinforce the bolt heads with fiberglass slury and fill the outer flare holes with epoxy and fiberglass mat.

Once dry, sand down the repaired holes, paint and reattach the flares.

I had the opportunity to see John's car in person about 10 days ago. It looked great then and his additions and future plans will only make it better. John was nice enough to offer to let me drive his car but I prudently declined. Twenty-five MPH signs in his neighborhood and intercooled boost don't mix.

I know I posted pics of my flare install a while back. If it wasn't for the hood scoop I would swear it was mine. Porsche Polar Silver paint too.

You're too kind Chuck. It's still in track rat style paint... silver is very forgiving in photos. However, by the summer it should be sporting a nice new paint job. I'm leaning towards a slightly lighter gray and non-metallic.

Vince,
Your car was certainly one of the CGT bodied cars here on the board that inspired my undertaking this rather involved process and I can attest first hand to the advice you've given in the past that this is not a road easily travelled and there is A LOT of work involved. It seems in the end though, it may be equally rewarding... I'll find out soon.

John

So no more NACA duct plus hood scoop? Aside from the rear side reflectors (why, oh why God did they decide to put those hideous things on the Yank cars?!), she'll be lookin' pretty slick

(I secretly lust after a CGT replica, 'cause I know I'll never have the will to keep a real one, and you can make all the bad stuff better without having to worry about originality )

Nope I'm losing the NACA. Too much clutter I think. I'll likely just cut it out of the old hood and keep it stashed, just in case I get the desire to graft it into my fiberglass hood.

I'm gonna skip the euro driving lights and add some funnel air ducts instead. Currently I have the openings covered with some fiberglass blanks, but once I get back to dealing with the final details on the GTS nose I'll get some ducts installed and route the passenger side cold air to blow on the turbo and use the driver side cold air to feed my the "former" A/C blower. (All the A/C components will be removed in the next few months, except the blower and switch.)

I just kills you to cut up the rear fenders. My friend same guy with the coffin car has the skills to cut it. I just closed my eyes. If anyone needs help I will walk you through it. I will wear my waterproof jacket so you can cry on it.
I really mean it. It really hurts to see the cut up car.

It does hurt. I put it off for a few months after the initial decision, pretty much until I was sick of waiting and having fully accepted the ultimate fate of the car was to be CGT.

Car looks great, even needing the detail work you mention. The flares really do accentuate how obnoxious the US rear side markers are! Shaving those is definitely a must! So question. Your front valance doesn't have the US side markers like on the 944. Are you going to put Euro side markers behind the front wheels?

I got a pair of US front fenders out of Arizona that had the side markers removed. Looks great, only suggestion that they were there is by looking at them from the inside.

Don't worry, before final paint those side markers are gonna be gone! I may even burn them in ritual sacrifice shortly thereafter.

I've wondered about putting the euro side marker on... I'm ok looks wise without them but for safety maybe its something I should consider.
