|
|
Every was going pretty smoothly, for a novice. So I was pretty excited when it came down to the last two bolts. That was short lived when I took two turns and realized the nut was slipping inside the little housing it sits in.
So now I'm in a bind because I have NO idea what to do. I tried to use a screw drive to pry the radiator while I tried to unbolt it - that didn't work. I tried to push it back in the housing to see if it would catch, that didn't work. So now I have two lower radiator bolts that just spin and spin and spin. I don't have a "saw-zaw" or what ever that thing is. But even if I figure this out, what I do about installing the replacement?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hands on help in the area would be even more appreciated and compensated.
Oh, btw, I planned on replacing the water pump while I had all that out . . . anyone free next Saturday or Sunday?

Cut the bolt heads off with a dremel, get the rad out of the way, and continue working on your wasser pump.
There are a few options to repair or replace the backing nut when you're ready, one being paying a welder to stop by your house and zap them back on (I recently hired someone to come over and do a welding job on Red. . .very inexpensive). _________________ Toofah King Bad

I do own a dremel so I'll see if I have a bit to do the job - or get one at Home Depot.
I've got a couple folks to ask about a welder that I think will pan out.
Thanks for the feedback.
P.S. Since I've never done the water pump and might not have the tools - still open to anyone stopping by for beer and brats. . .

I used a dremel for those bolts too.
Because I was laying under the car while doing that, I ended up with a metal splinter in my eye, which had to be removed in the hospital....with a dremel.
Well it wasn't really a dremel, but they drilled in my eye, and it sucked.
Always use proper protection. I remember I did, but it still got in (actually I didn't, but I won't admit).
I've replaced the stuff by welding two nuts together in a 90deg angle and screw a modified bolt in the lower one as a stud.
It's a little unclear, but you'll figure out the same thing _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)
