|
|
Recently acquired 78' 924...almost cherry, has $20k in aftermarkets/upgrades already...but could use a bit of a tune up/updating. Under 60k original miles...needs some going through, and I definately need plenty of advice! I have a great mechanic...just gotta point him in the right directions . Any other recommendations are highly appreciated, I'm definately a noob!
What should I start with...or check first?
I'd love to throw a turbo on this engine...recommendations?
Peace!! |

| LOL!! I knew id get a reply wanting pics, insta reply...nice! Heres what i know...This car was the centerfold of porsce club magazine in 91. i did see a LOT of receipts b4 they were lost in a drunken spree by the previous owner. The things i remember seeing are the 944 suspension swap for like 8k, brakes upgraded and lines rpl both done at 31k miles. Tranny and motor were rebuilt and some upgrades maybe? @40k. I at least know the pistons were ported and polished. Pulleys. And it has the Carrera body kit...wish it had the motor, haha. I know nothing more about its story or condition other than, it starts and does run and handle SWEET sticks like glue on turns!! would love to get closer to 0/60 of 6 or 7sec. have 1k to spend now! Swap engine would be nice it seems, but maybe it just needs a tuning, the plugs are probly at least 5yrs old. Should i turbo/supercharge this beauty? Do i need to rpl engine seals for the extra psi. Will 1g afford all the rqd parts? I will post pics soon!! |

Where's ideola? He's usually posted a link to his tortuously long and inconclusive upgrade thread by now...

Funny Khal!
Yeah, I already pointed him to the tortuously long Performance Upgrade thread in one of his other posts _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Wonder if some of that cost is simply due to being in Hawaii? Everything has to be shipped in and costs an arm and a leg. _________________ Stefan

One more bit of input. . .it sounds like you have a wonderful example of a 924. Getting appreciable power increases out of these can be quite challenging. . .if it is too slow for you, perhaps it isn't the right car?
(I don't mean to minimize success that some members have had with supercharging, but that is a pretty major undertaking.) _________________ Toofah King Bad

Thanks for the info, advice, and recommendations....gonna start my own upgrades thread with pics in a couple days!
First, ordering the tune up kit from ideola! Second, more research on the superchargers and radiator upgrades.
Peace and Mahalo! |

20 large is easy to spend if your not doing the work yourself, or paying full retail for parts, etc... you have to figure the parts and labor alone plus paint for a gt conversion can easily exceed 10k at a shop. i just read somewhere that the average "quality" repaint alone is about 8 grand.
on the other hand, if those 20k of upgrades didnt include labor, and shop price, then id be real interested to see what was done. for that much, it should have allot of titanium parts and a Mr. Fusion engine conversion
I would recommend taking care of the basics first, and make sure the car is running and driving as its supposed to be. drive it for a bit, and then decide on upgrades. many a car has been killed by over ambitious upgrades. adding an sc or turbo is great, but not if she goes boom in the process and shipping of a replacement head has to be expensive. concentrating on one system at a time can save you allot of grief.. start with a haynes at chapter one, check things at you go. by the time you get to the back cover you'll know everything you need to about the car and you can start "upgrades".
or not, but enjoy it what ever you do _________________ Eric

| U r correct, the receipts i saw were from the shops that did the work. As i said, just the suspension 944 swap was 8k. But, pics are coming later today...tryn to see visually if i have flywheel and cam upgraded, pretty sure but not positive they were. Peace! |
