Would a 928 transmission fit into a 931 with little (or hopefully no) modification? _________________ Rob

why would you want the ass heavier? i'm quite sure the 928 unit is heavier than the 931 one. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

My guess is he might be looking for a transmission that can take more HP. My 928 has a 5 speed and 330 HP. The transmission can be destroyed if not treated with some respect......so the 928 5 spd isn't exactly bullet proof. I've heard the 928 automatic transmissions are stronger than the 928 5 spd box. _________________ 1981 931 (Canadian car)

I would take the weight penalty for a 968 6-speed! _________________ "Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves. "

the 928 5 speed manuals are weak(mercedes units)..they often break due to high torque..wich is really not that high...the strongest gearboxes of them all is the 6 speed 968 CS one...it can handle 500 Nm of torque in racing mode...all day..every day i looked for a 6 speed but the costs are very high and as i understand the linkage must be modified and also there might be some spare wheel well cutting involved. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

I was thinking that if I need a new tranny (if changing bushings doesn't lessen the slop), I could get one of those, but I guess they take more modification than just adding an audi box (and needed components) from a 924. _________________ Rob

| It would be a difficult swap. You need to cut the floor in the rear seat area along with the torque tube. I don't think that it is worth the effort and expense because of the weaknesses these transaxles have. |
