1980 2.0L n/a

the engine had a recent tuneup and headgasket change..... about 1200miles old are:

distributor cap/rotor
spark plugs (ngk silver)
belts
fresh oil change + seafoam (half big can)
seafoam (whole big can) in the tank
seafoam (half big can) down the vac lines
new injector o-rings

things i know i still need to do
verify timing is correct (dont know how yet)

possibly replace thermostat (seems to be running too cool, all the hoses i can grab without burning myself when fully warmed up, on the gauge the needle stays between the fat part on the left, and the next line, or at the warmest slightly above the first skinny line)

fuel filter

things im not too sure about:

there is a mixture too.l sticking out of the cis distributor box, not sure if its ever been messed with but im going to want and make sure that its at the correct setting

small exhaust leak i cant fix myself between the downpipe and cat, top bolt on cat flange has sheered off and its in the tunnel and impossible to get to with my current arsenal of tools.... i think i will be ok, my vw rabbit truck passed smog with 3/5 gaskets blown before the cat lol

unsure if my vac lines are connected to the vac adv can properly and that it is functioning?

last thing, the little box that the ground cable from the intake manifold bolts to, and that holds the ignition coil has a fat crack in it. what is it and what will it affect if anything being cracked?

Cracked cable Im unsure of... This is uncomfortable for
me too as I for the first time have to pass my 924's thru the
same test as you. You say your other vehicle passed,
& the mix hasnt been tampered with, then dont worry
bout it to much. I suppse Ill find a garage and have
them check the mix from the tail pipe parts per mil.
& total %.

I've always found that using 87 octane gas helps.

Drive the car for like 20minutes or so before you go to the smog center... warms up the cat to its point of efficiency.

If they catch you, don't admit who installed it!!!

FACT SHEET: EXHAUST SYSTEM REPAIR GUIDELINES

The EPA has prepared this fact sheet to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about the types of exhaust work a repair shop can legally perform. If you need any further information about the EPA's tampering policy, please call (202) 233-9100 or 233-9040.

Question 1.

Under what conditions or circumstances can a catalytic converter be removed from a vehicle and a converter replacement pipe be installed?

Answer 1.

Under federal law, catalytic converters may not be removed and replaced with "converter replacement pipes" by any person. The 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments even prohibit private individuals from installing "converter replacement pipes" on their own vehicles. Anyone who installs such pipes would violate section 203(a)(3)(A) and (B) of the Clean Air Act (Act).

In addition to federal law, forty-five out of the fifty States also have statutes or regulations which prohibit tampering with the pollution control equipment on motor vehicles or driving or selling such vehicles. Thus, vehicle owners who tamper with their own vehicles may be subject to substantial penalties under both federal and State law.

The only circumstances in which a person would be allowed to remove a converter is if the vehicle is being shipped overseas to an area where unleaded gasoline is not generally available. (Vehicles traveling to Canada or Mexico are not eligible for this exemption.) In this instance the vehicle owner must have a letter from the EPA specifically authorizing the converter removal from the vehicle in question.

Thats a crock, So maybe theyll be walking around with
mirrors on ong poles. That way they can look under
the car and see exhaust set up. Here i can move 35
miles south down the freeway and not have to worry
bout any of this crap.

Check that your wallet is full of 100's, then put 50's in the left front pocket, 20's in the right front pocket.

If you're close to passing, pull out a few 20's and ask "how much is the fine?"

If you're not passing at all, pull out a 50 or two. The 100's need to be saved for when you pull out the 50's and he says "Do you know how much I could get fined for passing you?!?!"

Don't they usually jack up the car when they do an inspection and emissions test? Or do smog tests happen at a different time/place?
