|
|
Well, 2008-2009 were pretty successful years in getting NLA stuff back on the market for the toofah. Main bearings, OS rod bearings, rod bolts, Cometic head gaskets, valve springs, snailshell dogteeth, quite a good couple of years I'd say!
So what's next on the list????? Here's a few ideas I've culled from various posts and emails to get the creative juices rolling. What do we really need badly that we can't get?- lifter adjusting grub screws (all but the 4x version are now NLA)
- 931 S2 crank reference sensor (931 606 021 00)
- Improved cam oiler elbow
- Oil pressure spring
- Option for stock replacement motor mounts
- Relined handbrake shoes
- Blower fan / motor
- NA alternator tensioning bracket
- NA early clutch cable ends (screw-on style)

Well, of course I'm gonna vote for the blower fan considering what I just went through. However, I don't need one just now... _________________ '88 944 Auto - may or may not resurrect |

crank sensor would be sweet. But the most important thing on that list is the elbow. Its for both 931/924 and is really critical.
I can add that i´m in search for a blower motor at the moment, but the biggest problem is the installation. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

how does the crank sensor work, hall or VR? _________________ "Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves. "

does anyone have a picture of the item in question.
I imagine that it is a VR sensor (3 wire). and I imagine that it is a shorter sensor. But if you look at the 944 Reference sensor (same on 928 85+) I imagine that it would work, it would just be longer. This could be resolved by the use of creating a spacing sleeve out of aluminum.
The oil pressure spring can be shimmed for more pressure. But more pressure isnt always better.
You could also shim it so that it never opens and use an external hydraulic pressure regulator whcih would just route excess pressure back to tank. Use a pressure guage to set max pressure. _________________ 3 928s, |

I have got to go with the cam oilier elbow. Not only are they hard to find, but they are terrible expense when you find them. Not to mention they are easy to break.

For what it's worth, I can get cam oiler tube elbows for $12.50 each plus shipping. The last ones I ordered were back ordered, so they had to come from Germany, don't know if that means they'll be NLA soon or not. But it does seem silly for such a critical part to be made of plastic...
...I'm a bit surprised that the lifter screws haven't garnered more attention...we can get new lifters and new cams, but no more new screws...but I don't have the foggiest idea yet how to go about commissioning replacements... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I think this has something to do with the fact that most people don't replace their lifter screws. All used lifter screws I've seen have badly worn threads which I wouldn't trust in my motor. Not to mention the cracked one I pulled out of my motor. Which is one of the reasons why I plan on going with piper style lifters on my car.
As far as replacements, you'd probably have to get someone like arp to make some.

I really could use an alternator tensioning bracket, but that's just me. other people prolly could use all the other bits more _________________ proud owner of a 1979 924 Sebring Edition with a 931 trans that looks horrible but somehow runs... |

I'm waiting for the list of items to be tabulated then put to a poll. That way we know our choices of what to vote for!
I'm down for screws, even though I have no idea what I have (other than a total of 16) or what I need (since I have new lifters, and will use them with new valves that I haven't even ordered yet). _________________ 78 924 NA

Do you have them on-hand Dan? If so throw one on my pile, otherwise I'll talk to you offline.

No, I don't have these on-hand, I have to order them. I can't get a group buy discount on the OEM parts, but at least they're available.
