So I went to look at an '82 931 this afternoon. It's not worth restoring but it would be a good car to strip and modify as it has a very good, straight body. Even the front lower valence is in great shape. The question I have,as I have been away from this board for a long time and have plain forgotten,is; what is involved in swapping out the Audi tranny for a 951 unit? Is there welding invloved or do you just need 951 trailing arms etc.?
Any info will help.
Thanks guys,Leigh _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

it is a simply swap.
But the 951 unit will have a single mount to the bar which sits below the tank, as suppose to the 82 which will have 2 mounts. _________________ 3 928s, |

do you mean swapping the audi unit out for a snailshell? because the 82 had an audi unit already in it. _________________ proud owner of a 1979 924 Sebring Edition with a 931 trans that looks horrible but somehow runs... |

I think ill bring home another porsche here before to long.. I have
a couple people that have one sitting around, One guy has a 931
and a 931 parts car and to other guys that have 924s one
is a non-sunroofed car the other has one. the non sunroofed car is green the other is brown the 931 i dont know what color they are. the 924 cars have been outside for awhile and it would definatly fall under the project catagory. I still have my 14" ta radials on some aluminum rims i could
run those. I would like to have a yellow car again. Do I have the room definatly. Just not alot of cash. Though i have an extra hatch with a 924 spoiler on it I could make a light weight stock bodied lil runner. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Yes,I realize that the 81-82 model year 931's came with an Audi unit. I am also aware that they are not known to be very strong and i am planning on putting a fair bit more power thru it than the car came with stock. That's why I would like to put a 951 box in. My question is just how many 951 parts would I need and is there any welding or other fabrication involved. Maybe if someone out there has done it in person they could chime in. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive
