|
|
Hi all,
I started my 924 for the first time since it started snowing quite heavily and I noticed a fairly major fuel leak. I looked under the rear left wheel and I saw the leak. It seems the rubber fuel pipe has cracked somewher near the top. I have attached a crappy phone photo I will take a better one over the weekend but hopefully it will give you guys some idea.
How difficult is it to replace? The rubber is cracked at the bottom but the leak is coming from higher up.

Really hard to tell from that photo, but it appears that somebody put a rubber "sleeve" around the main fuel line, maybe an old hose slit down the middle and fitted over the fuel line proper. If that is the case, it may be a clue that there was an abrasion problem in the past, and this would be the most likely area to suspect.
There are a number of possible sources to consider here.- In-tank pump to external pump
- external pump to accumulator(s)
- between accumulators (if you have the dual 20cc setup rather than the single 40cc setup)
- accumulator to front of car
Any one of those lines could be ruptured, OR, any one of the junctions on those lines could be leaking. This will require some careful examination. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| It seems from what I could see that the rubber line IS the fuel line up until it hits the clip in the photo which runs up to the engine (and that part is fine). I couldnt get my jack under the car to lift it up to see. Will I have to remove the fuel tank to get access to the fuel lines? Whats the best way to proceed? |

No need to remove the fuel tank.
Best way to proceed? I would start from the back of the system and perform a very careful inspection with a very bright flashlight (torch). So start from the outlet at the in-tank pump and work your way forward. Or vice versa, start with the line that comes from the front of the car where it attaches to the fuel accumulator and work your way back to the pump. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| Grand I will try to have a look over the weekend weather permitting. When I am replacing the cracked rubber fuel lines am I best to use the metal fuel lines that are used in motorsport or just replace it with rubber lines again? |

Rubber is sufficient, provided you purchase the correct size, and that you purchase fuel-grade lines. Don't assume that the sizes on the car are correct, they may have been replaced before. I don't know the sizes offhand, maybe check in Haynes or see if anybody else knows... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| the car has some short rubber hoses those are easy to replace however the car also has two fuel lines that are hybrid metal with rubber ends they are quite long and only one piece so you cant change the rubber with out changing the rubber and the metal piece, those lines can be quite tough to replace, i have a 924s so im not sure how its run on the N/A 924 but on the s to replace the lines you have to drop the rear suspension, and remember dont put any duct tape on them or any thing the gas will dissolve the adhesive and create a nasty goo that is tough to deal with and could seep in the lines and clog your injectors. |
