Just took my baby for a short drive (only a couple of suburbs over... was all i was game for at this point haha) for the first time since late August last year.
I have a number of people to thank genuinely and profusely at this stage
First, Crunchie - thanks so much, mate. I honestly cannot thank you enough for the work you did. I hope you and your family love the baked treats on behalf of my girlfriend.
Guys on the board who have helped me out heaps with their knowledge and patience (though I've never physically met most of them) include RC, Pocketscience, Ozzie, Leadfoot and also Ideola and Rasta. Thanks to you guys but also to everyone else here.
Another big ups to especially to Charles and Peter. Thanks so much for all your help and putting up with my incessant questions. (the time shall come for me to repay haha!)
She still needs a bit of work however. lol. Needs a mad tune up though cos she's running a little rough at the moment which i'm hoping is just the mixture. I changed the oil today (wanted to change the filter but forgot to buy one of those filter ratchet-y type things and i can't get the bastard off with my bare hands) and have a new set of plugs and a new fuel filter as well. (Fancy a catch-up, Charles? Ha ha... if there's wrenching involved i can guarantee there'll be beer, delicious dinner and home baked sweet things following!)
But... she drove!
Looking down that yellow nose and seeing the little pop-ups felt pretty damned good!
Thanks again, Dave. Seriously... you're a god amongst men! _________________ 77 NA 924

Great one BB
I used several different tools to try to remove my oil filter.
Still ended up bashing a FB screwdriver through it. Oil everywhere but the bastard deserved it. It would not move. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

I almost always use a big honkin' pair of channel locks. It was the first and last oil filter wrench I purchased back when I was wrenching my way to a college education. Still use it today. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

It is always such a good feeling to resurect a beast. Congrats man.
I second the big honkin channel locks... I call mine my(6" spread) "do-me-alls", now my kids call all channel locks "do-me-alls".
Anyway nice looking bee you got there. Glad to hear its back on the road! _________________ 81 Porsche 924

Thanks, guys. Thanks for all the words of support.
So you're saying if i poke a hole in the oil filter with a screwdriver (and get oil everywhere...?) it should come off?
Or these channel lock thingos you speak of? _________________ 77 NA 924

Yes those are channel locks
Yes once you poke the hole with the screw driver. You drive the screw driver into the filter and turn the filter with the screw driver. It makes a mess, but will break it loose. _________________ 81 Porsche 924

These look useful (though no longer available) from JCW -
I use something very similar, but with smaller teeth - a hose plier that opens large enough to get around the 924 oil filter. -From either JCW or Harbor Freight, but it's also NLA.. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Fantastic news! I thought you might be getting close seeing you were talking about oil changes and similar. Big screwdriver through the oil filter is the final messy solution to a tight filter.
Must be a great feeling, all the toil is worth it and think about all the knowledge you've gained. _________________ 1979 931 with a 350 chev
