Hey All,
I'm working on my new 77 924 NA, it's a runner but haven't driven it yet, it's got some work to do. Currently have front seats and carpet out to dry it out.
So I'm cleaning up the engine compartment and notice there is no belt on the air pump. Pulley on it looks kind of rusty, like its been gone for awhile. Thinking I may pull it off it isn't needed. Opinions?
And the EGR tube has been disconected. The tube is attached to the exhaust and then comes up to the engine bay but the end is caped off with a hose with a bolt in the end. I think I'll take the tube off the exhaust since it shakes really bad and makes a racket since it is only attached at one end. The car is too old for emissions where I live so that's okay.
So is removale of both going to hurt or hinder anything?
Thanks in advance.

Have Scottie beam them up! Sounds like you don't need them and the car never did
I would go thru and pull all the emissions and plug openings. _________________ 81 Porsche 924

Yep. Exactly. Also won't sound like crap once it's all plugged. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

Good educational thread. And not just about 924s... _________________ '88 944 Auto - may or may not resurrect |

So I pull off the air intake boot off the throttle body in my thoughts of removing the air pump since it is not being run by a belt. And there is a hose running from the air pump to the intake manifold below the throttle body. Haynes shows that there is a check valve there. So is that line just sucking air through the air pump even if it isn't running or would it be blocked off? If I remove that hose should I block of the line or put a crankcase breather filter on it so it can still suck air. Even if the air pump was working, wouldn't this in effect create a lean condition since it is sucking air in after the air/fuel mix?
Maybe I should just put a belt on it and see if the thing still spins. _________________ 1977 924na BlackSeaRD.com Torque Tube SuperBearings, Xenon air dam, 200# Weltmeister springs, Bursch header, 944 exhaust, Audi throttle body |
