ok. so I am going to need a fresh distributor but before I get my hands on one I would like to remove the rotor sensor to see if the sensor is visibly damaged. Ive noticed a smal soldering point that looks like its been clipped by one of the magnetic arms. theres a small lock pin on top and the flat head screw. both of which could be the securing principal in this. how do I remove the sensor properly without breaking it. Ive searched but to no avail. its an 80 n/a. Danka. rule # 1.

mine wants to look like this when it gets healthy. .

You have to disassemble the entire distributor to get the sensor assembly out. The replacement cost of the sensor plus the labor is higher than the cost of buying a replacement distributor in many/most cases.

When the module in my 81 distributor fell apart at 100K miles, I took it a Bosch Authorized service center where it was disassembled and inspected, with the module replaced, and tested after reassembly. The labor was less than $50 at the time. I think the module was about $80-$100.

I still have that rebuilt unit available...

...love the signal green, btw. Don't see too many in that color, it's a good color for the early cars.
