|
|
For a while I have tried to decide what to do with my 924 turbo.
Was going to make it original, then thought about a racer or a GT.
REALLY I want a reliable, HIGH gas mileage daily driver.
I'm really not sure if this will work...
The 931 motor was made by vw/audi, correct?
So, wouldn't an older VW turbo diesel motor work with the existing transmission? Of course with some mounting and electric modification.
What kind of bell housing fit would have to happen?
Any thoughts??????
Also, I'm gonna part out my 931 engine or sell the whole thing, so if any needs/wants any really good parts or the whole engine, let me know. |

No, they were hand made in Zuffenhausen by Porsche. _________________ Mikko

Wasn't the same block used in the Diesel Vanagons? _________________ Stefan

The 2.0L block is in fact the same block used for the diesel VW LT trucks. Not sure if that's the same thing as the Vanagon, thought those were a bit later and a different power plant... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

i'm sure you could swap in a 1.9 TDI 150HP Audi unit.
would take alot of work but its doable. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

euh.. I'm not really sure... but those engines were petrol engines.
The diesel LT had a quite different engine.
but again, not 100% sure. _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

a 931 in good repair should get you at least 28mpg hwy, and if you go easy, better than 30mpg is generally no problem, which is pretty darngood for a car thats 30 years old...
Ive gotten better than 35mpg in my n/a 2.0.
our new rabbit 5cyl doesnt even do 30 mpg consistently... _________________ Eric

1990s to 2000 D5252T 2460cc Audi TDI 5 cylinder in Volvo 850 and S70/V70 and early S80s. 2.5TDI is just a 1.9TDI with additional cylinder. _________________ Carl Fredrik Torkildsen

The 5 cylinder TDI has a Audi style bellhousing bolt pattern, like our 924's, the 1.9TDI is like a 4 cylinder VW engine, total different pattern, and also different from early and late motors. _________________ Ryan Moone

That is why you should use the Audi 1.9TDI (longitudinally orientated engine at the front)
Frankly, I donīt know the bolt pattern of the Audi engines. But if you are going throu the trouble fitting another engine an adapterplate doesnīt compicate things that much. _________________ Carl Fredrik Torkildsen

Gegge - The later Audi (also VW Passat) TDI longitudinally mount transaxles are dual pattern, with Audi and VW patterns - Transaxles based on the 01A or 01E.
Yes, if you're going to do a swap you might as well build a adaptor plate. But I always want to find the bolt in solution. _________________ Ryan Moone
