Hello group, Im new to this forum and am trying to revive a 924 which has been sitting in a corner of my garage for about 12 years now, I have plans for it which include a wide body kit from IFC, turbo installation and some other stuff which are in my thoughts. I have been well guided by other members in the forum regarding advise about a turbo installation which I APPRECIATE VERY MUCH. I though wish to eliminate the present CIS system which seems to be so complicated to diagnose when somethings wrong with it. I would like to know what the alternatives are, I was also refered to a MEGASQUIRT system which seems to eliminate the system completly. Anyone have any information on this system, a supplier name, and what would be expected frrom it with the addition of a turbo. I am looking for 200+ bhp any ideas of any turbo which would meet this figure with ease? I have a Euro engine with CR of 9:3.1. The vehicle is to be used for pursuit times races and short curcuit racing. Any ideas and info will be appreciated.

Welcome along!

You are taking on a complex problem there but it's been done before - I don't know about 200 bhp from an N/A though!

Megasquirt is a do-it-yourself EFI system thatr can be adapted to any car but you must understand it as there is no off the shelf answer and most parts have to be manufactured.

megamanual.com is the place to start with Megasquirt and the forum is MSEFI.com

CIS works just fine and it doesn't need to be eliminated it can be adapted to cope with boost and parts aren't that hard to find. Most cars on here have CIS adn it works just fine

Good luck with the project!

Rich

MM, I was talking to my mech this afternoon and he sugested a system called DTA, which as explained seems to be some kind of megasquirt / ITB system, he also mentioned an ECU which my car doesnt have Im not familiar with these systems on the porsche ( actually i dont know anything about them mechanically) im sure the CIS system is good to work with since other members have stated so, yet id like to look at options for obtaining the desired BHP from the 924 engine.

There is masses of info on this board about installing Megasquirt in our cars. I'm not sure of the exact count, but quite a few of us have done it without major issues. My car has just returned from it's first long tour with MS (400km round trip). Ran great.

Search is your friend - on this board and the interwebs in general.

Cheers,

About efi systems
megasquirt is a build it yourself circuit board, chips resistors ect, with many different configs possible, it the least expensive route.

SDS, DTA, EMS, ADAPTRONIC, VEMS, MOTEC, 034EFI(vw/audi), FAST(corvette/mustang), ect. are all prebuilt EFI systems usually targeted torward a paticular make. Almost all can be configured to run any car. some are very affordable and some are really expensive but are very powerful(motec)

there are some people who have taken a factory EFI system from one car and adapted it to use on another, as these have easily burned chips, with a laptop and software they can adjust the factory tune. (honda ECU) this is the most complicated route.

when going to a standalone EFI system the key is research! there is a lot to know and alot of adjustments that can be messed up. none of these options will be a bolt on and go. all will require lots of time tuning, custom wiring, problem sorting, fabrication of some parts, and did i say lots of time tuning!

I just spent another $100 on dyno time because I made a change and wanted to recalibrate my tune (scirocco with 034EFI). I do feel that the expense is worth it, the better throttle response is a major benefit.

CIS is ok if its been maintained but a system that has sat for many years is going to need so much work cleaning every part and replacing the ones that failed that i feel its better to just put a modern EFI system in.
