===================================
List of participants, updated Feb 3 2010.
Participants
TOTAL PARTICIPANTS: 1
===================================
See THIS post for a more detailed calculation of the price indication.
See the previous group buy:
http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=24727
and Piper's website:
http://www.pipercams.co.uk/pipercams/www/product.php?pid=FOLPOR
Since I'm interested in a set, I've contacted Piper to ask if the lifters were in stock. Unfortunately they aren't, and they require a minimum of 3 sets before they'll start making a new batch.
Things I know:
- ETA: January 2010 (but probably depending on this group buy)
Thins I don't know (yet):
- Price
- Diameter and price of the shims
- Delivery
The previous group buy involved a significant discount for 10 sets or more, so it would be nice if there's enough interest.
The price on the site is 200 pounds excluding VAT. How much % is the VAT in the UK? This price is the maximum price. It can only go down from there
Anyway, I'd like to see if there's interest. I've never organised a group buy but there's a first time for everything. On the other hand, if someone feels the need to take it off my hands, that's perfectly fine by me. It's probably easier regarding shipping etc if it's organised from the UK.
Reply if you're interested. Prices can be estimated by checking both links above. _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

One, possibly two sets depending on price
Cheers

I guess that's why piper hasn't been responding to my emails. I need a set.

I got my reply after 3 weeks
If I base the price on the previous buy:
- Shims would be 4 pounds a piece (so 4*8=32 pound for a set)
- The lifters themselves would be 155 pounds per set if we get 10 participants, 175 per set if we get 5 participants.
Not sure about those prices, I'm hoping on a quick response from piper with some indications. Daniel, are you sure about one set, and if it's really cheap you'll have another? or you're not sure at all at the moment?
Do not forget shipping costs, paypal fees and shims on this one.
I'll try to figure out what the shipping costs from me to RoW will be, what the shipping costs from UK to me will be and what the fees will be to get an accurate picture... _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

I won't need any shims, just the lifters. I can source shims locally pretty easily.

Hi
Im not 100% at all right now, it would depend on interest from others and price breaks ect...

+1. I am interested but I can't commit $400 right now, which is about what I paid last time around...however, that was for only 2 participants...
Timing will have an impact on my participation, as much as price. I can't do anything at the moment, but sometime in the first quarter of 2010 may be doable.
One other thing to keep in mind. Do NOT believe what Piper is telling you relative to the delivery time. They took FOREVER to produce and deliver last time, so you should expect this to take at least 4 months from the time you place the order. Not trying to discourage anyone, but you need to be realistic about your expectations. If they deliver faster, great! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

VAT is 15% now, going back up to 17.5% in the new year (1 Jan) only payable by EU members as I understand it though.... _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

| Does anyone know the actual weight difference? And if the weight difference is significant enough for a performance increase? Is this something the GTS/GTR might use? |

@ManicCycle
Suggest a re-read of the thread that martijnus originally linked to, as this has all been covered in detail there.

This may come as no suprise to you, but i have these piper followers in my engines. Regarding the Q as to the worth of fitting them, i believe they are worth it for several reasons.
1) Much lighter than the stock item.
2) Much lighter than the stock item. When i say lighter, i really mean lighter. From memoery, the weight of 2 stock followers is equivalent to all 8 piper followers. There really is a noticable difference in the engine with these fitted.
3) Better performing, due to the weight issue.
If you are fitting a new cam, i think these are essential. Why wreck a good cam with suspect followers?
Now, i have had a couple of sets from Piper, and both came with the shims. 6mm is ideal, and a good engine shop will have plenty of scope to machine these down.
Now, i have had no problem with Piper, but one batch did take in excess of 3 months to arrive!! So perhaps Arrow are the better bet. Arrow are a superb company, they supplied my steel rods. The items would be faultless from them, and well worth the extra couple of $ in my opinion.
Now, if your next question is about dry sump pumps, i know all about those too

Further reading in that thread reveals that one member listed his solid lifter at 58 grams (without shim), while another member listed his stock lifter at 80 grams (without adjusting screw). _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Thanks for the info dan! Do you happen to know the diameter of the shims btw? As with Min, I can source shims through another way, but 6mm thickness is quite a bit!
Shall I compose a list of interested participants?
About that VAT... over here everyone pays it, except companies (so you don't pay vat for the stuff you'll use for your company, ie. laptop, tools etc)
I don't see how non-EU members could bypass that If so, it would be dumb to organize this fromout the EU, right? _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

No, unfortunately, I don't, and I can't measure because everythings nicely tucked away and installed in my EMW-prepped head now.
When Jorge setup my head, he used valve blanks, and they cut them a little long and then machine then to fit, not sure how much shimming he used, but the point being, my shims may not be indicative of what other guys need because I don't have stock valves...
Regarding VAT, I don't recall ever having to pay VAT for items I've imported from the UK, including my Piper lifters, nor the Pace dry sump system.
I'm happy to facilitate in whatever way benefits the group, but as I said, post-holiday would be best for me. I have a lot on my plate right now trying to deal with the bearings, rod bolts, head studs, and everything else... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Well, I need these before my car can run again. I can find out the dimensions of the shims that piper sells, if that information is required.
