As my car is going to the paint shop next week I've started to think what to do with the black rubber strip on the sides.

Are the strips glued on?
What is the best method to remove them if one decides to keep the originals?
Does anyone have a picture of a car without the strips?
Any advice on refinishing the original strips?

Thanks in advance

they are attached with adhesive, use a heat gun or hair dryer, with a plastic scraper to carefully remove them if you intend on saving them. reapply with 3m trim adhesive.

personally, i think the car looks much better with out them, but i have retained mine so far simply because i know as soon as i remove them, some idiot will door ding me..

If you're like me, nobodys doors line up with the rub strip. On our four vehicles, none of the doors line up with the rub strips. Seems like they are just for looks.

An auto accessory shop might be able to match the style of the strip and put all new ones on, they are usually cut to fit where they tapper the ends down. My boss had some chrome ones put on and they look very similar in size to the 924 ones.
