My 1988 924SE is one of the best running vehicles I have, but it gets only 20MPG. In the 26K miles I have owned it it has always gotten that. Sometimes it will be as high 22 sometimes as low as 18. Is this normal for the 88 engine? My 87S usually gets 26 to 29.

Maybe the problem is your right foot?

Joec - I get 20/22 mpg in city driving with my 88 924 SE (US model). I get 25/26 on highway trips. I used to get better mileage when I had the standard 195 65 15 tires mounted. I removed those and now have 205 55 15s on the front and 225 50 15s on the rear. My handling certainly improved with the wider rubber but ride quality and mileage were impacted a little. I used to get 23 mpg (city) and 28 mpg (highway) with the narrow tires. I'm not complaining about gas mileage - the older Corvettes I used to drive rarely did better than 15 mpg (of course the HP was worth the price of fuel).

P.S. I noticed that your SE has a passenger door mirror. I've never seen an SE with one before. It looks like the original mirror so I guess you were lucky enough to get one - I just have to drive fast enough to ensure no one is beside me

Have you ever calibrated your speedometer/odometer?

I seem to recall you were running 16" rims and slightly larger tires on that '88 SE, right?

no. That was on my carerra body S. And they are actually smaller in diameter than the ones on the LeMans. The 16" rims I am running225 45 profile tires and the 15" rims I am running 215 60. Maybe I should keep it under 100 on my way to work every morning.
