Half way home the other day something strange started to happen. Prior to troubleshooting, I figured I'd run it by the group to see if there's any suggestions on the best place to start.

When the brakes are applied, the right turn signal indicator flashes at around twice the rate that it operates at with the brakes not applied. The left indicator appears to work normally. All of the light bulbs appear to operate as expected; the only issue is the rate at which the indicator flashes, when the brakes are on.

Any ideas?

As the .signature says for wiring diagrams, etc.

Once electric connections r clean you need to coat them with a dielectric grease to protect them. That should restore function. Your going to
turn into the Mad - Electrician.

in the boot, behind the carpet, to the left of the spare wheel, there is an earth point. undo the bolt, clean the copper, grease it up and put it back,
You problem is poor grounding.

Had the exact problem, cleaned all Earth contacts ect - played around for ages, made no difference at all.

Gave up cause its a race car, but if you come across the solution pls let us know.

Indeed the problem was a bad ground, or earth as the Pommies (as Khal would refer to them) say.

The problem was caused by some rust forming in the socket for the tail light light bulb, that is, the bulb directly below the turn indicator bulb, which is the bottom outer bulb on the rear light cluster.

I also took the opportunity to replace the bulb with one of the correct type, as the old one was a big 27 watt bulb, when the other side had a 10 watt bulb in that location, and the rear light cluster indicated a 10 watt bulb was supposed to be in that location.

Note that the electrical contact for the outside of the bulb is supposed to be on the little tabs on the base of the bulb, not the circumference of the bulb.

Cleaned off the rust out of the socket where the tabs make contact (which necessitated removing the plastic part of the socket from the metal bracket), and it all works properly now!

Thanks!

I was expecting a ground loop issue like this, and am glad to see it is the case. I haven't figured out what the actual current path was that caused this to happen though.

And every other Australian on the planet.

Just to be as helpful as 9XX Girl!, I Google'd a picture of a turn signal/indicator;

A 10W bulb;

And not to forget some Dielectric grease;

Now we all know what they look like, don't we kiddies?! Yay! Let's all clap hands together!

I used an electrically conductive grease (not a dieletric) intended for aluminum electrical connections in mains wiring. I was assured it is appropriate for this type of application as well.
