I have this problem that once in a while the starter does not disengage fast enough. So you start and despite the fact that you let go the key there is this short grinding noise.
The starter is new. Could this be related to the ignition lock + grounds or is this more likely directly solenoid related??
Thanks and Cheers,

Try putting a small amount of grease of the ring gear, while the starter is out, check that there is no dirt or whatever on the mounting face of the starter as it may not allow the starter to sit flush on the bell housing.

| My Toyota truck does this. From my understanding its because the solenoid that pushes the gear in and out of the transmission is on its way out. So lots of times I go to start it and it sits and grinds the gear until it finally goes into its correct position. Then you hear the starter wind up way to fast with the motor until it finally disengages. Anyway, its extremely annoying and its one of many reasons I'll be working on my 924 this weekend so I can hopefully have a new daily driver. Sorry my Toyota story is not exactly helpful or relevant, as that is not really whats happening mechanically with your 924, but I feel your pain. |
