I have a 1977 1/2 924 that has a Windblown Systems turbo. The car belonged to a friend that needed it gone so thinking it would be a fun car I bought it for $500. The fuel pump was gone along with the check valve (it failed was to costly to replace and got lost over time). The car has been stored inside for the last 17 years but it is in fare to good condition. Last year I purchased a fuel pump, flushed the tank, purged the fuel lines, replaced the injectors, filled it with fresh fuel treated with injector cleaner (Chevron with Techron), changed the oil, repaired many issues with the Turbo install, flushed the coolant system and after three attempts at starting it was running. Did brakes, replaced the tires and changed the trans/diff lube and I drove it 300 miles and it got 31 miles per gallon with the A/C running.
I/it needs help. Is it worth fixing and restoring? Even though the A/C works the heater controls are messed up and it needs a new blower motor (where can I find one of those?).
Can anyone tell/show me where the check valve is to be installed? I have what Porsche said is the correct valve. I was told the valve is installed at the fuel pump, if so I am missing a fitting. |

All it needs is the check valve installed? And a blower motor? Sounds like it's worth fixing and restoring to me!
Check valve goes on the outlet of the fuel pump. _________________ 78 924 NA

That's not restoring - that falls under the category of weekly maintenance!
Got any pics of the turbo setup out of interest...

The windblown setup is rare, I think we would all be very interested in some detailed photographs of it.

Indeed. Please please please take some photos and post them in this thread:

For a $500 car, by all means, you should hang on to it and try to keep it on the road. It's definitely worth it, particularly because of the aftermarket setup. That makes it a rare car (although unfortunately, it doesn't really increase its value).
As for the check valve, it's possible that you actually have the incorrect fuel pump so that the check valve you have won't install correctly onto it. Pictures will help...
FWIW, there's another toofah owner in Kazoo: ivan. Ironically, he's driving out to my place today to pick up some tires and wheels and 4-lug stuff. You guys might want to connect so you can get a small group together over on the west side of the state. If you were closer to me, I'd offer to come out and help with stuff, but GR-Kazoo is a bit of a commute I'll let you know the next time I'm heading out that way, I'd love to see the Windblown setup in person. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I will work on getting pic's posted as I have pictures of the car as it was when I picked it up. I'll take additional pictures that show how I handled the plug wire issue.
Thanks for the help on the fuel pump check valve. I figured that it was located at the output of the pump however if I do have the correct check valve (I have two versions) I think I am missing something like a cap of some type because the fuel line leading away from the pump is a banjo fitting and both check valves have threads on both ends. I'll take pictures as well.
I would really like to thank everyone that replied. |
