I have an 88 924s i received it not working after having the DME ECU rebuilt it worked, for about 6 months, it is now dead again, after replacing many of the fuel lines thinking fuel pressure was the issue, it still dose not work.
After reading some other posts i came to think it is possible that the timing belt slipped although as far as i could tell it is still in tact, how would i know if it has slipped, and how can i go about fixing this, and is it even possible for it to slip.

Are you familiar with the Bennington Motorsports.com site? They have a good writeup on this problem.

You could take off the belt covers and check to see if the cam gear and TDC line up correctly.

I think what you are actually asking is do I have bent valves?

You should do a leak down test. This will tell the condition of the internal engine and if you have bent valves that are not closing.

Here is a link on both compression testing and leak down testing.

You can get a leak down tester at Harbor Freight cheap.

i am at college right now and will not be home for another 6 weeks so im trying to gather all the info i can so when i get home i can do what i need to to fix it, in terms of bent valves it is an option, however the engine sounds fine, and when it stopped running it kind of would buck down to a low rpm then die. I will be checking the belts when i get home. I am also looking for a reasonable priced 944 that is running or needs little work, if any one has an info.

"Buck down to a low idle and die"
"it is now dead again, after replacing many of the fuel lines thinking fuel pressure was the issue, it still dose not work. "
"After reading some other posts i came to think it is possible that the timing belt slipped although as far as i could tell it is still in tact, how would i know if it has slipped,"

Well, IF the timing (cam) belt did slip a couple of teeth, the car would almost certainly Buck down to a low idle and die when the valves hit the pistons.

It was not clear to me that you replaced the lines after it stopped and tried to start it again. If the engine turns over without any resistance, your valves should be OK. Check the belt before you turn the engine over again.

We could go on for 6 weeks and offer a mountain of suggestions but it would be fruitless unless you were near the car.

ALSO,

"I am also looking for a reasonable priced 944 that is running or needs little work, if any one has an info."

If I understand correctly, you want a second "fixer" to park next to your "roller" to keep it happy? CraigsList or Crazedlist.org are your best bets.

i did try and start it after replacing the lines, and the engine did turn over fine, which is why i think the valves are fine, ill try and have my dad take a look at the belts, or my brother if they can figure it out but that is not likely, provided i do get a 944 the 924s will most likely become a parts car, and ill rebuild the engine for a swap eventually, or if im feeling adventurous it will become a weekend autocroser.
