| Hello everyone. Well I just purchased a 81 924 with some problems. It sounds like the Fuel distributor is haveing problems. It seems it was fouling plugs and had fuel in the oilpan. The previous owner took the head off thinking the valve guides need replacing!! Where is a good place to find parts? Thanks All |

Several part houses are mentioned, quite a few times over the years on the board. Check out the search function, works great! In the meantime, I've used autohausarizona quite a bit. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Autohausaz is good for general stuff. EBS is the place to go for some of the harder to find bits like main bearings, rod bolts, etc. Pelican and Automotion are good backups if you can't find what you need at the first two. I rarely if ever have to use any other suppliers than these four.
If you truly have a problem with the fuel distributor, your very first purchase should be a CIS tester, which you can get from JCWhitney for ~$60 (sku# ZX123617U). If the fuel distributor is toast, you can use it as a core to get a rebuilt one from Special-T Auto for ~$300, otherwise, you'll have to take your chances at finding a good used unit from a donor car, which can be a crapshoot at best.
You should determine if the fuel dizzy is the problem, and then continue with the rest of the fuel system (WUR, AAV, accumulator, pump, etc.). Here are a couple of threads that talk about how to diagnose and resurrect a long-neglected 931. Some of that stuff is specific to the turbo cars, but most of the info re: the CIS system should be directly applicable to your car.

One more thing, get a Haynes manual, and make sure you read the supplement (Chapter 13) which covers some of the updates for the 81-onward models. Unfortunately, the Haynes has some missing and inaccurate info on the 81-onward cars, so if you're not clear on something, be sure to ask and validate here, but you'll find that the Haynes will be helpful for many issues with the car in general.
Welcome aboard, and good luck with the resurrection! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
