SO, I take the tube out of the GTR, and a mighty pain it is, since you have to access the rear bolts through this tiny little hatch on the belly pan designed for 6 year olds using watchmakers tools.....
And, it's perfect. No noise, no slop, bearings look brand new, the shaft spins ever so nicely.
The noise and rough feel was the input shaft bearing on the GTR transmission. Talked to several people and was told "they do that sometimes. Don't worry about it unless it leaks, and just change it out at your next rebuild.
So now my dilema was: Do I built a machine to press the tube apart anyway, and put in the wonderful new bearings Marc sent me?
Answer: nope. I want to, but I just don't have the time right now. Sorta weird, worst automotive market since the Carter was Pres, and I'm busier than I was when the shop was working 2 10 hour shifts 6 days a week.
So, I apologize to any that were liking the idea of a nice clean purpose built machine. I'll still build it because I see a real need, but probably not for quite some time.
Tube is back in, and everything is set for the motor to come home from the Doctor.
Unless there is a huge snag, I'll be at the Road America PCA club race Labor day weekend. I'll be under the Kelly Moss tent. Please, feel free to stop by to chat, gawk, take pics, or if you are a pretty girl, sit in the car
(pretty cross dressers don't count)
Class GTP3, car number 25.
