Well ever since putting my engine back together and back in the car i've got some running issuses with my row 81 932.
The car starts up fine and idles nicely, once i get onto the road and open her up the car runs great but after about 4-5 mins of driving once the engine starts to warm up the car starts missfiring/sputtering as the whole car feels hesitant and intermitent and then eventually dies.
Have to wait a while before the car is able to start again and limp her home.
Could this be related to the common hot start problem of the 70's?

Any ideas as to what could be causing this problem will be greatly appreciated.
As for now im gonna go see if my car has a check valve and if so see if it needs replacing.

I have a similar problem with my 924s that i am working through right now, i found most of the rubber components on the fuel system were leaking pressure so im replacing them all, this could be a main part of the issues as when the lines get hot they expand and the cracks separate. I also found a horribly dirty throttle valve, not so much the hart of the issue but may add to it. If you have not replacing the fuel injector seals is never a bad idea if they are warn out they may be leaking air and changing your mixture. Other places you may want to check are your fuel pump, fuel pressure check valve (at the pump), pressure dampers at the rail, compression in the cylinders, air intake(mass air flow valve, air filter) and last but not least the vacuum lines. if you have any specific questions i can give more in depth advice on any specific system.

best of luck
dave

Yeah I like the above answer. I would be looking at vac lines and WUR, first then everything form above.

WUR (check pressures with a CIS fuel pressure tester), overheating fuel pump relay, clogged fuel filter, overheating/failing fuel pump (again testable with a CIS pressure tester), clogged fuel tank venting, maybe even malfunctioning EEC system..? (-If RoW has it.)
It's not the hot start problem - though you could call it a hot -stop- problem.

Have all new injector seals that shouldn't be the problem. But i did order a new check valve so i'll switch this over and maybe i'll get lucky and that fixes it.

All new vac lines have been installed so dont think its a vacum leak (checked them all a million times just to be sure ).

Lol, yeah just have to keep the engine cool, maybe install a few more fans and i shuld be alrite to the shops and back

I've had a noisy fuel pump since i bought the car so maybe it has clonked it. But strange how it would hold pressure nicely whilst the cars not warmed up.
Will buy a CIS pressure tester and check it out.

Thanks again guys, keep ya posted

Ok problem solved,
After replacing the check valve and testing the fuel pump and wur and checking out the pressure regulator the car still sputtered once warm.
Decided to just have a look at the timing for some reason and released that the head was out by about a tooth. Dont know why it was out because i remember setting it all up to top dead centre but anyway.
Took the belt off and sorted it out and the car does not sputter and die but keeps on tugging along.
Weird how it was running nicely with the off timing when it was cold tho. The cars computer probably just couldn't handle the off timing when the car warmed up or something.

Finally can get her back on the road as my daily driver, now bleeding the brakes seems like a good idea since they're barely there.

nice job

I had the same issue and it has now gotten worse. originally the car would start and then just sputter out. but now after replacing most of the fuel lines, the dme relay, and cleaning the intake valve. The car wont even start now. the timing is the next thing ill check now that you have mentioned it. However i know nothing about timing except what it does and what its function is in the over all system. what should i be looking for, how do i go about timing the engine if i have to.

Hey Masterdave,
If your car is a 1981 turbo I suggest checking the connection of the plug into the DITC box under the dash. I had a real dilemma with mine once that is for sure. It was plugged in but the roll pins were actually still loose inside the plug. Cutting out , backfire scary stuff.
Cheers Bob
