Guys,
thought I should share my experience replacing the corroded battery box of a 1988 924S with a donor battery box of a 1989 944 Turbo. I found some useful information searching the 924Board - maybe somebody else will find this post helpful, too!
Biggest advantage of the donor battery tray was the additional side drain (water is being draining behind the passenger side front fender) as well as the fact that the tray was an original Porsche part! After undoing the spot welds to separate the tray from unwanted parts the fit was just perfect - we also used parts of the side wall perpendicular to the tray! One issue that came up during re-assembly: the additional water channel required disassembly of the A/C box for modifications! It was a bugger but worked out OK.
To protect the interior I've removed the A/C box and all the padding/carpetry on the passenger side. I decided to replace the cracked dash for another very good used one with only minor cracks, which I've brought with me from Germany. Perfect oportunity to get this done.
Here is the link to the place that did the body work for me - overall they did a great job although not everything went just perfect! But so is life...

More pictures are available but I need to find a way to share them!
I've been asked was it worth it to go through all the hassle? Decide for yourself... |
