Hi there
I bought my 82' 924 N/A Few months back. So i wasnt impresed with its speed so i was thinking about a LS1 Engine swap , i got a LS1 ($3000 , 40 000 km) at a guy who is holding it for me , i can get the front brakes for $500 I can get a 944 Torque Tube for $350 . So What else will i need? excpet the back brakes and the 944 gearbox ? Do i have 2 get the torque Tube and gearbox from a 944? Is there any other Torque Tube/gearbox that will fit? And what do u think about the price of these parts so far?
Should i just leave this crazy thinking of the engine swap? And IF i do it wht can i expect for blowing about $8000?
Earlier today i was looking at my left front Light it will just go off at random times so while i was looking at it , i toke of my airfilter (big black box) and gave the engine some gass , i heard a weird sound from where the airfilter was , like if the engine sucked something in? Weird enough the car goes alot faster now? I usually got around 50km/h max in 2nd gear now i get around 80km/h? Any ideas wht happend? i was thinking mayb something blocked wher the air go in?
Thanks

Hard to say. It'll probably be a bit quicker. Read Applebit's thread. He and PORSCHEV seem to think their engine swaps were worth it. MacBdog has a swap underway right now, over in Bris Vegas. He'd probably be a good source for more accurate local information on needs, availability and pricing of parts, etc...

Sure does sound like there was some kind of obstruction. Probably the air filter. Now it's gone, seems you can suck crap into your engine at a 60% faster speed! Great! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

No it wasnt air. It was like if something blocked it .

Put in a decent high flow filter the K&N oil impregnated element is around $80 AUD that way you can get slightly better flow without sucking shit into your engine %60 faster, still probably better performance without a filter.
OR
you could also take off the exhust system after the headers and totally miss the muffler and cat, then without that air filter I reckon you could do 90km/h in 2nd and the shit you just sucked into your engine 60% faster can also get out the other end 60% faster (or so the theory goes).
Oh and dont bother with the engine swap, If you wanted straight line speed you purchased the wrong car. Only 1000 924's were Aust. delivered of which 171 were turbos. In my opinion the engine swap stuffs with the weight distribution and ruins such great balance and defiles another of the the few original 924's left. if I were going to buy a 924 in Australia for $5000 and then spend $8000 for an engine swap I would have just purchased a 4.5 or 4.7 928 for $13000 in the first place. _________________ 1977 924 2.0 Auto |

I'd suggest buying a nice 951, and bolting on a few bits, rather than doing an engine swap in your 924, unless you are in love with the work involved. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."

See what RC, leadfoot, endwrench and others have done. You could get a long way there for less than $8K. You keep the balance (the best thing these cars have to offer!), and get pretty kick-arse performance.
EFI: $1200
SC: $500
IC: $200
Cam: $400
Associated other bits: $1000
That's assuming you're capable to do a lot of it yourself too...?

951's are pretty pricy here around $20000 AUD but you could pick up a 931 (or actually a 932) for $8000-10000 and start bolting. _________________ 1977 924 2.0 Auto |

951 being about double a 931 (932) makes sense. By the time one is done with a conversion, likely that much would be in it, depending on the quality of the build. On my modest projects, the little things tend add up quite quickly. If one loves to do a heavy build, this makes sense. But if one likes to tinker, and drive, starting with a different base might be a better option. Or even a 968 is 235HP is sufficient. _________________ "Never get out of the boat.
