Hello everyone, I've been watching these forums for advice and information for a little while. I have a problem with my car that I attempted to fix by replacing my fuel pump!

In these series of videos, my symptoms and problems will be covered by annotations and balloon 'tips'. I would appreciate any and all help towards finding the reason why this is happening.

Overview: Basically my fuel pump wines and my car dies out. Unable to start right back up again. Note: The car is not drivable further than a quarter mile before this happens. I bought the car in this condition, replacing the ignition coil and now the fuel pump most recently; and the problems still persist with the new pump (have only turned it on, not tried to start it, yet). I have a fuel filter I will put on and see if that does anything, I highly doubt it though. But perhaps it is a hose that when it gets pressure it collapses and less fuel gets in?

Another thing to note. I have removed all of the fuel injectors, they work; I'd give them an 8/10; and with them all removed and placed in a container, I have lifted the air/fuel mixture unit lever to send fuel out of the injectors while the pump was running smooth. Then, I threw the injectors back in the engine and ran the car until it died, afterward with retesting IMMEDIATELY AFTER, no fuel would come out of the injectors, NONE!

Another day while everything was good enough to start the car with; *for the x amount of time it would run* (and not starting the car all that day) I only turned the key so the pump would come on, and not the engine. I ran the pump just by itself and it would run until it would whine and droop *15-20 minutes maybe*, as seen in my videos, after that happened I lifted the lever to see if fuel would come out of the injectors; none.. ->>

So the verdict is that the fuel delivery system will work as should as long as the fuel pump doesn't wine, for whatever reason. Even without the car being started at all. That being said, I replaced the fuel pump and the symptoms persist!

Is it:

A.) The Fuel Filter needs to be replaced?
B.) A hose is collapsing under pressure?
C.) The mysterious vacuum hose that is missing from my Vacuum Amplifier!
or
D.) Some other reason..

I had a noisy fuel pump. I changed the check valve and the filter. Made it a lot quieter. I also sprayed some carb cleaner through it and ran it manually.

Thing is, I have a very similar problem to yours and I think I have tracked it down to a temperature signal. Trying to investigate soon.

Also that doesn't look like an S. It looks like an older cis based 924.

the vacuum tubes are important if there is one missing that may be the issue. Could also be a problem with the idle control unit, or there may be a pressure leak in the fuel system. legoist makes a good point in checking the pressure check valve. They are delicate pieces if the spring gets bent or twisted it may not work. it may also be the fuel lines. If they are original chances are they are bad. salt, temp change, pressure degrades the lines over time they may simply need to be replaced.

Yea, it's not an S. The thing about the vacuum tubes is that it happens without even starting the car. Just turning the key over enough to turn on the pump; the pump will run for about 10 mins or so then will start to whine. After the 'revving' whining sound I have pulled out an injector and no fuel comes out what-so-ever. One would think at least some would come out.

So, what I'm doing now is I bypassed the fuel lines and accumulators with a hose to the filter (from the fuel pump) and will start it tonight when I'm back from work. If that doesn't fix it then I'm going to run two lines of wire to the pump from the battery directly to see if the problem still persists (and narrow it down to the fuse or relay possibly) .

I'm thinking it has to do with the wiring or relay/fuse. Because of the whining noise it makes, and during the minutes it runs fine I'll pinch or clamp the hose and it won't wine, thus proving that blockage or a bent hose isn't causing the whining/no fuel getting pumped.

Thanks a lot guys, I'll let you know what happens next!

I would try asking this question over in general discussions. They will be able to answer your questions about the 2.0 liter engine better than we can... 924S' have 2.5 liter 944 engine which is very different than yours.
