hello again 924 community
having gotten the tolls i need to do my basic maintenence i have come upon a few problems.....
1 the drain plug is stuck and this thing called PB something or another isnt working so well
2 when i let me old oil filter drain out it dripped some oil onto the exhaust pipe and im not sure if that's a problem or how to get it off if it is a problem
3 when my front tires were off the ground and i spun them(out of curiousity) i figure they would neutrally keep rolling, but then grinded to a halt for some reason that i dunno why

Likewise, mine plug was stuck too. I managed to get it off using the incorrect size socket, which fit tighter than the correct size.
I replaced the plug with one of these as suggested by the good folks here.
In the time being, since you're saying it's already screwed, use vice grips or something like that to get the plug out.
Don't worry about oil on the exhaust. It'll smoke a bit next time you drive it, then it'll all be gone.
In order for your brakes to work, there must be minimal clearance between the brake pads and the rotors. It is normal for them to drag slightly. Your wheels should spin freely and silently if you retract the brake calipers, but don't expect them to spin more than a turn or two with a bit of a scraping noise otherwise. _________________ 78 924 NA

1- Put a box-end wrench (aka- "ring-spanner", or closed-end wrench) of the correct size on the plug, half-crawl under the car feet first from the left side of the car, and push the wrench with your foot to loosen.
2- No problem - wipe off what you can. The residue will burn off..
3- I know you're dealing with disk brakes there, but the test for old drum brake adjustment was to take the wheel in both hands and spin it as hard as you can - when adjusted properly, the wheel should make about one complete revolution. Similar, but not the same situation with disk brakes - similar in that there is some drag, just not as much as with drum brakes.
Long story short - you may not have a problem (unless the grinding sound is from bad bearings rather than brake pad-to-rotor friction.
When spun hard, how many revolutions do they make before stopping? _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

I had a stuck drain plug, used everything in my arsenal to remove it and it is still there.
I ended up drilling and tapping an 8mm hole beside it and have a bolt an nylon washer in it to drain my sump now.
I think I will weld a piece of steel on it and hit it with a sledge hammer next.

Have you tried heat on the oil drain plug? You could try heating the alu and then blasting the plug with some freeze spray (or just turn a can of compressed air upside down). The dissimilar metals and temp difference may be enough to free it up. When I did the first oil change on my NA, I had to remove the old plug with a pipe wrench because the head was rounded off. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I used 2 butane torches on it. Plumbers pipe wrench, impact sockets, all the heavy duty stuff. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
