What is a safe way to do this?

Done with college. Tackling FOES as soon as parts arrive.

you have to remove the cam belt, balance shaft belts, & back cam belt cover piece to get it out. I was just in there yesterday because the water pump had to be tightened down to the engine ( leaking a bit & sucking in air ). at least I'm hoping thats why it keeps running hot erratically. I have the break down of it all if you need it on a PDF file for the 2.5L engine. My 1988 used an updated pump style with the belt guide on it. Actually heading out to put coolant back in the system.& get all the air out of it.

Here is an answer if it happens.
Take your time and use penetrating oil and maybe it will not be a problem. You can get new WP bolts and nuts in a kit.
Answer:

The gasket needs a sealer-Harbor Freight sells Hylomar which many people use: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=97824
Or a Permatex non hardening product.

And finally Pictures of a FOES job:

Of course the best way to avoid corroded and broken waterpump bolts is to replace the waterpump on time, and keep an eye on it, replacing the waterpump as soon as there are any signs that the seals are failing, regardless of the time or miles that the car has been driven since the last waterpump replacement.

The corroded bolt/s are the result of coolant leaking from leaking/failing waterpump seals, and the failure of the car's owner to replace the waterpump at the first sign/s of failure.

so getting some liquid wrench onto the nuts of the WP is not a problem but there is no way to get it onto the bolts.

Am I just going to have to get lucky and hope that the bolt doesn't snap while trying to remove it?
