Does anyone know if Bosch 0280160227 is interchangeable with
0280160286.

here's the back story:

I have been fighting a intermittent start issue for a while now.

the car will sometimes start and catch right away, usually when it is cold out. It won't stay running when driven for very long, but I can leave it idling for quite a while even if I rev the engine etc...

Other days, both hot and cool, the car just cranks but won't fire.

So far I have done the following:

I tried removing an injector plug
    jumper-ing the DME relay
    replacing injector seals
    reworked vacuum lines
    replaced check valve

I ave also tried unsuccessfully to measure fuel pressure at the rail. I say unsuccessfully because the only pressure gauge I could get my hands on was a harbor freight model. It would read pressure with pump going but not running around 37 psi

However the gauges, I had two different ones, then stop working all together.

Anyway. One of hte things I tried was swapping the fuel pressure regulator out with one I got with a used Fuel rail. That didn't help either. When I looked at the part numbers on each regulator they were the same. Later I looked the part up and found that he regulator I was using and the one I pulled off were for a 944. the 924s has a different part number.

Does anyone know if Bosch 0280160227 is interchangeable with
0280160286. One pats site has the 227 part number as the correct one.

I'm wondering if the different part is causing issues...

Thanks,
Chris

Try googling those part #s + bosch to try find data. AFAIK the early 944 FPRs are 2.5 bar and later 3 bar. Disconnecting the vacuum line will raise pressure sufficiently for a rich start whatever.

However, playing with the fuel system is usually in vain until you`ve checked spark. Sounds like it may be your crank sensor which is a very common problem.
