Please confirm that the TDC mark on the camshaft also indicates that the crank is in TDC on the compression stroke.

Also, please confirm TDC for crank and cam in compression is the basis to do all the belt alignment and tensioning procedures.

Thank you.

If your belt is installed properly.

Since this is your first time of doing this, you need to get a flywheel lock and lock the crank at TDC after turning the motor until the camshaft marks line up. There's a window under brake booster that allows you to see the timing marks.

Ditto to Paul's comment - always use the flywheel marks, not the mark on the cam gear. Use the flywheel lock once you get it aligned.

There are two marks on the flywheel:

1. One can be seen through the "window" next to the reference sensor (hard to see, but the official mark that you are supposed to use).

2. The other can be seen through the small hole on the bottom of the bell housing next to the clutch inspection port. (I use this to verify the top mark is correct).

Flywheel mark to line up in the window below the brake booster:

Mark underneath the car:

I am having the hardest time determining TDC on my car.

I am able to find the alignment line in the cam, and see the OT & its line clearly in the window.

However, there is no alignment tab to be found in the window, or completely dissimilar to the picture in clark's garage!!

On top of that, I have additional concerns with the future reassembly.

If I rotate the slightliest bit on the cam with the marks lining up, the OT is already dissapearing from the window, causing concern that its so precise that I may not be able to get it right!

Also, I do not see any markings in the clutch inspection window by the starter. Oh geeze!

Please help!

ok, been up all night dealing with this....

flywheel locked with arnnworx tool
-cam mark lines up seemingly right
-upper BS over by about penny thickness
-lower BS mark lines up seemingly right
-OT mark from what i believe is the alignment tab if over by about a penny thickness
-groove in clutch inspection window biased towards passenger side

is this TDC or is it as close as it will get?

is there an alignment mark somewhere on the crank?

am I able to proceed with the FOES in these conditions?

Sounds like you got it pretty close to me - the marks will never line up perfectly - as long as you are within a one tooth on the cam gear, you should be fine.

+1 to BC, and. . .don't think of the flywheel lock as a precision tool. . .it isn't.
