here are the symptoms:
instrument cluster lights do not work
rear round light and tail lights on when key not even in ignition

I was rough when I pulled the speedo cable out about a year ago; I've learned to be more gentle since then.

all the wires/plugs run the right places behind each gauge so I suspect is somewhere down the line.

Please help me resolve my past sins.

If you have the fuel gauge cluster out, the under hood light and parking lights will come on when the key is inserted; (perhaps the side markers too, but I don't have any on my car to check...) Also the headlights won't work.

This will also cause the dash gauges to light up if they're grounded... so check the ground and the bulbs...

All exterior lights except the headlights (and possibly foglights) should work without the key. Even the turn signals should light (without key), but not blink.

yes, but what im saying is that the round rears and tailights REMAIN on.

might be a nightmare or a simple fix.

Sorry, about the last post... I read it really fast and also the lights will work with the gauge out; (it must have been a fluke in the car I was last working on, I just tried it in my car and it works normal...)

Ok, what happens when you turn the parklights on? Do the parklights come on and the side markers go out? Or do they all come on together?

These cars electrics can do very strange things, and most of the time have a very simple fix... so check the fuses and assure that everything is plugged up tight...

Are the side markers dim when they are on all the time? ...or atleast dimmer than they are when you flip the switch?

If so, it's a grounding issue... try grounding the dash lights somewhere and see if you can get them to work... this may fix you're glowing light problem as well...
