I took a peek under the car today (1981 931 S2) and it appears the Oxygen Sensor is disconnected showing just a short wire. I am probably going to try a Bosch Universal for $17 rather than the sensor with the OEM connector - my guess is its the same sensor with just a Porsche dongle. Where does the Oxy Sensor connect? I seem to recall my last car (many years ago) that a wire ran along the crossmember, but the memory is fuzzy. I did not immediately see this wire while laying under the car as best I could. If the wire on the crossmember is in fact not there, where should it run, and where does it connect to the harness?

The OE wire is shielded from its' connection at the lambda box, to the connector that should be attached to the rear of the crossmember. If it's not there, I'd make one from a piece of flexible coax cable. Don't know the routing off the top of my head, but it's one piece and not part of a harness. The shielding is grounded at the lambda box end only.

Crawled a bit under there today and didn't see the wire along the cross-member, though I could have missed it. I am going to take a look at the Lamda box and go from that direction forward...
