I know many of you have a BMW. My 92 BMW 318i alternator failed and when I pulled it out I saw in the bay the cable for the Mass air sensor and the throttle position sensor but also a third 2 pin connector as part of the bundle. This connector doesn't seem to have a home. The cable length indicates it should be close. I wonder if anyone can identify this orphan ?

I've found the BMW forum to be less than helpful in the past.

Thnx
DAve

Try www.m42club.com

I used to own a 1992 318i... awesome cars, loved mine to death!

Bimmer forums are less than helpful when it comes to the 4 cylinder BMWs because they dont think its BMW enough... its alot like the 924 in the Porsche world!

(p.s i got an ecu chip and some other parts too if u need anything)

On an early E36 I think that the wire you described goes to the Idle speed control valve but this is only for the M40 engine, it is the only 2 pin wire I can think of in the vacinity of the throtle position sensor, but it has been a while since I had an E36 and never a 4 cylinder, I had a look at my E46 and couldnt find the wire you described.

As it turned out the connector was for the Fuel vapour purge valve. After 4 years the check engine light is finally off.
