Once I get a decent heater in the garage, I can do some painting in the engine bay and a few of the other parts that still need to be cleaned and painted.
The front suspension is ready to come out, but between refinancing the house, looking for work, working, the weather, plus some other excuses I haven't thought of yet, heh, I just haven't gotten as far as I'd hoped. I have made some progress though. I will have a decent bench in a day or so, that will help give grinder, drill press, sanding machine and vise a better place to live.[/b] _________________ Stefan

Actually, I was gonna ask if you or any other PacNW 924 folks were interested in helping get the car ready for the West Coast $2009 Challenge, which is sometime in June in San Diego.
At this point, I need to get the car running so that I can tune it over the spring/early summer and work out the bugs.
Mechanically, I'm relatively adept, but familiarity with the 924 is helpful and anyone willing to help with the body work important since I've never done it before and the car needs all the help it can get.
Once the Holidays are over, I'll start working on the car in earnest, which means every weekend and nearly every weeknight. _________________ Stefan

Made some progress on the Porsche this weekend.
Driver's seat is mounted:
Forgot how much of a pain it is to get in and out of those when the car is up in the air and without the aid of a removable steering wheel.
Installed the Harness guide bar:
Nice piece, bolted right into place. Need to build a mount for the harness though.
Installed my "racing" shift knob:
Had to grind the shaft down and thread it. Came out fairly well I think.
Installed the new steering wheel:
Had to redrill the Momo to Grant adapter since this wheel uses an older style, larger 6-hole bolt pattern.
Added another coat of paint to the engine bay, Joy helped:
Loosely assembled the front brake calipers:
Started repairing the passenger motor mount:

Very nice! What's the intended use for the car? I'd seriously consider a roll-bar if you are using harnesses. A harness guide bar is really only a temporary tool for autocross, not for street use or serious track use. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

That harness bar doesnt look installed just looks like a long pipe poking out the window. Bet i could cut pipe for a roll bar its someone was a free welder. I really get my certs.. in welding I was at school this saterday getting a recert on one of my construction cards. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Joe, I'm in SE Portland near Woodstock (on the border of Clackamas and Multnomah counties) I do have some spare parts now and I posted them in the For Sale/Wanted section.
The car is being built for the $2009.00 West Coast Challenge. Basically how quick a car you can build for $2009.00. The events will be concourse, autocross and 1/8 mile drags. The harness bar will only be used for the autocross, so while not perfect it is better than nothing at this point.
Once I bring it back from the event, I'll spring for a proper cage and install the better induction system I have for it, some better suspension bits, etc. as it would all blow the budget badly. _________________ Stefan

Some updates on the never ending project.
Now that I'm unemployed (again) I have plenty of time to get work done on the car (between looking for jobs and other odd jobs around the house)
Freshly cleaned and painted strut mounts, ready for some machine work to fit my new struts.
New struts, picked up from a donor car I bought a while back.
They're from a Dodge Daytona and aside from the spring perches being wrong and the strut mounts not fitting the strut shafts, they fit perfectly.
Fuel injectors:
Also from the Dodge Daytona donor. Nice noses should help with the spray pattern. Plus they flow about 27lb/hr at 55psi good for upwards of 150-160hp. For a turbocharged car, you'd need injectors off an 89 or later car which flow around 33lb/hr at 55psi
The fuel rail is an interesting piece, it was made by the previous owner of the Daytona but he didn't get to really use it. Luckily it should work in this instance nicely with some adapter brackets.
I painted the engine bay a bit.
Emptied the rest of the interior:
Which brings me to the trunk area and the mess that is in:
Lots of grinding, filling, sanding, etc to come.... Of course I've never done bodywork before, but I figure I can't be any worse than the hack that screwed it up in the first place. _________________ Stefan

Looks good... but seems a shame to put those injectors in such a clean setup. Why did you grind the plenum...?

I ground off the mounting tabs on the intake to make it a little nicer to look at. I still have more clean up to do on the intake before I shoot some paint at it.
Those injectors are merely test subjects, I've got three or four sets floating around that I can work with that are in better shape.
We're going to ream the injector holes out in the cylinder head and mount the injectors directly in the head. I have a spare head to use as a test subject to get the rig setup to do the work.
Another task is to machine a new hub for the trigger wheel that is shorter and is hubcentric to the crankshaft.
Corse, yeah well, at least I don't have to make mine "perfect" just "good enough"
