Hi all!

i have two G31 that have the usual 2nd gear that grinds sometimes...

my thoughts of the night are the following:

both 3rd gear on both gearbox are in very good shape... so..
separate one dogteeth form a third gear and press it on a second gear with relative syncro and survive for the next 20.000 kilometers... more or less 4 years... during this time many things can happens like win money somewere and buy new gearset

on the first gear looks to be simple this kind of operation a good puller can be made if used with the big and thick seeger that holds synghro and brake bands in place

but 2nd and 3rd gear do not have this option so.. how this can be done?

any help will be much appreciate

Thanks in advance
Gianluca

Before you start pulling everything to bits check and make sure the 2nd gear dog tooth is the same as the third gear.

From memory 1'st and 2nd are unique to the G31 box, third is from a type 915 gear box (911) and 4th and 5th are able to be swapped around.

I haven't pulled a gearbox apart for many years now so my memory could be faulty.

second gear and third gear have the same dogteeth, they share the sleeve that engage the gear so they have the same outer diameter and the same number of teeth

first gear dogteeth is a problem... w-out solution at the moment..

Crrect. 1st is unique, 2nd and 3rd are the same (may be able to use an early 928 part) and 4th and 5th are the same as the 915. I havent tried it yet but I believe that if you change the sybchro hub for 2nd and 3rd you can use 915 parts including gear sets. I have all of the parts on the bench but haven't had time to try and assemble it this way.
