Hi,
I need to do a color change on my '79 924 as the body really needs some work and the paint needs urgent attention. On top of that, it is gold, so a color change can only do good. At first I thought guards red, but now I am wondering if white or black could be better. What is your opinion on the best color a 924 came out in?
Pieter

black, if want it to look respectful
orange, yellow or other screaming - if want to get attention
white (keep it clean!) - women loves it _________________ ex Porsche 924 1978

I have same "problem". At moment is dilemma, which would be best. Black with flake,or wihtout. Toyota has a nice black with very big flake. _________________ 1984 924 targa for parts

| Okay, so to make things a bit more interesting, I have added the poll option. You can now vote for which color you think I should make it. |

If your having a respray why go for a factory option? _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Well Rich, the 914 came out in (almost) those colors. However, that pearl-metallic orange might prove a bit of a challenge to apply right. (This will be a DIY job, as I have all the equipment (except a clean-room...))
The only concern I have about black is maintenance, I don't want to have to wash the car everyday to keep it looking clean. |

Personally, I don't care for a 924 in red. I LOVE the red on a Carrera GT or 944 body style, but not on the "plain" 924.
I prefer the darker colors, such as black, midnight blue, or the darker shades of metallic grey (like Khal's), primarily because they do a better job of hiding all of the black rubber & plastic body trim...prob'ly less of a consideration on Euro trim, but still, I personally like a monochrome look better than having all this black trim contrasting to a bright color. The obvious downside of dark colors is that they show more flaws.
That said, I do like the plain 924 body style in white quite a bit. My 924S is white and I like it a lot in that color. I also like the Weissach Special Edition / Platinum Metallic (period appropriate and somewhat unique). I do NOT like silver (too ordinary IMO), bright green, yellow, brown, burnt orange, powder blue or any of the other late 70s colors.
I guess an important question for you to consider is whether or not OE paint colors are important. If not, how about a metallic hunter green or jade green? Fairly uncommon on these cars, but I think it works well on the simple lines of the 924 NA. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

If you have waves of dings go for a light colored car. Black if the surface is perfect. I mean Perfect.
My original color of my car was Marsh Rot or dark red. I gave it a coat of Polar Silver and it looks good. Waves...............small ones if that.
My black Targa is black and I am constantly washing it.
The 931 is an odd color and it is Cassis. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Black paint is the hardest to keep clean, it shows everything. Any light scratch, any ding and if the paint doesn't go on correctly, black will present the flaws the most. I wouldn't go for that colour unless a shop was doing it with a warranty.
Silver, yellow, red, blue etc.
Surf the net looking for other car colours. |
