Is there any difference between the door mirrors of different year cars? The mirror glass on my sons black 87 fell off the other day. There is a black replacement on ebay from an 82. Are they the same or do I need to buy the red 87 for sale and paint it black?

I'm about 99% sure they're the same, and same as on some 911s.
To be 100% sure you could download the PET parts lists for the cars involved and compare part numbers.
-But in your situation, I'd try my luck at cutting my own replacement piece with a cutter from a hardware store, and obviously some mirror glass.
