did the 77 924 have fuel injection? I looked through my haynes manual and didnt see any mention of a carburator. i bought my 77 924 and it has a carburator....and an apparently homemade intake manifold. so before i go looking for an intake manifold i want to see if there are both fuel injected and carburated models out there.

no carbs were factory, unless it was a prototype...

Yes, it had Bosch CIS K-Jet mechanical fuel injection.

You might want to peruse the links up above, you'll find some of the information you're looking for and more!

For example: http://www.924.org/models/modelhistory.htm#Production%20Overview

http://www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq02.html

Anyway, doing a search on the forum, we find that there were carb intakes available on the VW Vanagon LT's which came with essentially the same motor.

There is also a Weber sidedraft intake available as well.

Plus there are all sorts of people who like to play with their TIG machines and make their own manifolds.

If you ask nicely, you might find someone willing to sell off a few of their extra parts. If you post some pictures here we can give you some feedback on how badly hacked it was.

Welcome!

i'll definitly post some pics once i get some. the cars at my mothers house in Massachusetts until i can get her in shape to drive to Ct. i didnt think they had carbs but the easiest way to know for sure was to ask you guys. believe me it was Mickey Moused, home made intake manifold, hackjob fuse pannel, wal-mart weather stripping around sunroof, HUGE black hoodscoop with accompanying huge hole under it to make it "functional". but i got it for $300, i call it a win.

I'll probably be your next best friend! I have several intake mannies, a couple of t/b's, all of the plastic intake plenums you'll ever need, scores of dinkoid parts you'll need to make it stock. N/a CIS that supposedly works, fuel lines, etc. Cheap too.

I did the same drive but in reverse. The 924 was at my parents house in CT and I moved it to the Boston area.

Photos of carb conversions:
Dual Dellorto

Dual Weber 40DCOE

Custom manifold for single carb setup

I don't know what kind of carb was being used on this last setup, I only have the manifold.

I met a guy at Lime Rock once who had a single carb on a made up manifold. He tracked the car that day.
I seem to remember that it was a blue or black car.
Not many guys put carbs on these cars at the time around '84-85.
I put my setup on in 1982.

BMW 2002s in that timeframe used a dual throat Solex carb that looks like it would bolt up the the single carb manifold. Later, folks replaced the Solex with a Weber 34/36 dual throat carb.

agfisher: thats a pretty good drive, i'm bringing it from Blackstone to west haven, CT. i might just get a trailer to get it here faster.

ideola, you have that last single carb setup? i may be interested in that. is it for the 924s? i have the N/A basic 924. just a beater that i want to fix up. but the intake manifold he made for it has vacum leaks out the butt.

wouldnt a double carb setup be too much for the N/A?

yeah i'm a noob

The single carb manifold is available for sale, listed here for $50. I do NOT have the carb for it, it is only the manifold. I cannot attest to its air-tightness or provenance, as it came to me in a "lot" with a bunch of other 924 parts. It is setup for a 1976-1982 924 NA. Shoot me a PM with your email address and info if you're interested.

Nope, a PROPERLY setup dual carb setup works fine, there were some articles available online that tested bolt-on mods, including a set of sidedrafts. Power didn't seem to go up as much as one would assume.

For that much effort converting to EFI (http://www.megamanual.com/index.html) is a better prospect, assuming the CIS system is DOA.

Either way, if you can find a way to fix the air flow in the head, you'll be in better shape.
