Hi ,
Just new to this board and also new to Porshe- just bought my first 1980 924.
I have a bit of an engine knock- what causes this- the car runs fine, doesn't appear to burn any oil

What oil pressure do you have at hot idle?

Is it defiantely a knocking or more of a tapping? These cars have mechanical tappets that need adjusting occasionally. they are generally quite noisy.

I will check out the oil pressure later today- you could describe it as a tapping sound. Is it difficult to adjust the tappets yourself?
I expect I would have to have new valve cover gaskets around before I would start this.

Valve cver gaskets are normally fine, I've reused mine several times with no leaks.

Tappets isn't hard to do if you can work a spanner adn follow instructions. You will need a 3mm allen key (L shaped) and a set of feeler gauges in addition to normal spanenrs and sockets. Takes about an hour or so first time.

Search is your friend.

FYI, you have posted in the 924S section, which is intended for discussions on the 924 that came with the same type of engine that the 944 used. These were not available in the year you mention your car was made.

This is more appropriate in the General Discussions section.

Thanks.
