Judging by the number of hits generated by a search for "AAV", this question may be useful to others besides myself

I am steadily replacing all my old crap CIS parts with new, and making good progress. However I have three used AAV's lying around and I want to be sure none of them are good before I buy a #&%?! expensive new one.

My cold-start idle has always been low (4-500rpm)....same result with all AAVs mounted. I stuck them all in the freezer - they all open about 1/4 of the way, and close just a little bit when I apply 12v. Will post pics when I get them. The mechanism seems ridiculously simple - I am surprised these things stop working as often as they apparently do.

Anyway, does anyone here have a picture of a correctly opened valve? I saw a post in here a long time ago but I have never seen actual photos. A clear photo of the open & closed positions would be very helpful, much better than any written description (maybe even worthy of a FAQ or How-To post??)

big thanks!
Rasmus

Yeah, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I tried cleaning one of them with carb cleaner and lots of wd40 to loosen things up, but no effect.

It is also described here http://www.hiperformancestore.com/Ljetronic.htm
This guy says it should be almost completely open when cold and almost completely shut when warm. None of my 3 AAVs come close to full openness - even with adjustment

Smoothie's old thread on aav adjustment has some nice pictures, but his AAV looks very different. Mine is smaller and does NOT come apart. Is this 931 vs 924na? http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=11577&start=10

My AAV is round and the case is crimped shut, it is most definately not possible to open it in a none destructive way. 1980 924 N/A RoW spec.
