i have a K26 out of my spare 944 shell that i have, i want to put it on a project car i have deemed K-Bird. Heres my question in reference to the K26;
On the K26 you have your engine carrier, is it possible to actually take that off and use the turbo for a different engine? I dont know a lot about the K26 because i have a non-turbo, and its just a shell that came with a few things, one of them happened to be a K26(stock out of '87 944) turbo. Just curious, thanks guys. Also i am new to the site, _________________ K29 project.. its coming |

the early 944 and 931 K26's used the same bearing housings; later 944 bearing housings were water-cooled, but essentially identical otherwise. what this means is that Porsche used two different mounting schemes for essentially identical K26 configurations. the 931 was mounted off the log exhaust mani, the 951 was on the intake side of the motor. the brackets are interchangeable,so you have two factory options.
for something completely custom, I believe the best approach would be to fab a bracket that mounts either to the stock mounting locations on the bearing housing, or possibly that bolts up to the attachment points for the backing plates on both the compreesor & turbine housings. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
