Was trying to remove the cheesehead from the camshaft.....

I tapped the thing with a hammer several times to to "wake" the bolt as suggested in clarks garage and made especially sure that the tool was going in straight for maximum contact.

The cheesehead just stripped like butter, possibly cause of an old bolt.

It looks like I have to pull the camshaft housing and have the bolt extracted but I don't know how.

If I pull the cam housing, what special procedures, tools, or precautions do I need to take?!

Oh please someone tell me how I can mediate this!!!

oh thank you so much for your help.

From your other thread you had everything lined up, why are you trying to remove the cam gear?

Need to do the cam seals, leaking heavily.

As an act of desperation, try forcing the largest socket type Allen wrench that will fit into the damaged cheesehead with a hammer.

if you have a dremel or other similar device put the metal grinding head on, cut a line across the screw, as well as fairly deep in to it, and try and remove it with a flat head screw driver

Why not drill the head off? Seems like it would be easy since you have a built-in centering hole.

There should be a thick washer behind the bolt... get out the angle-grinder an sacrifice it. Grind between the bolt and washer, once the tension is released it will unbolt by hand. 15sec job....might be a 15 dollar spacer so check first lol.

thanks for the reply guys.

I decided that I am first going to drill a hole into the bolt so that i may stick a bolt extractor in there

then i will drill off the head

if the bolt shank really has bonded with the cam shaft, then the bolt extractor will be used.

otherwise, unscrewing by hand will be preferable.

I will let you guys know how it goes.

ok, since i am tackling the cam last out of all the seals, i will be sure to attempt your OS allen trick just for you

Paul is correct, I've done it many times myself. Give it a go, doesn't take long.

This particular bolt is very shallow, similar to the flywheel bolts. I would also try an oversize allen socket but I would also source that large spacer for when the grinder is needed.

I've stripped a couple out myself. Don't know why they're so weak. I just drill the head off the bolt.
