GEt a new one, they're cheap.

I often re-use mine, for checking the valves - just did it, in fact.

But mine is new, about 2 mos old, and properly conditioned for repeated installs - oiled paper component, RTV holding in the end seals...

Thanks,
i was just wondering how durable they are and the likelihood of it ripping when i take it off,so is it a paper/rubber combination then?

Yes it is, and I would expect to see it rip.

The secret to re-using the paper gaskets and, in general to get them to seal well, that I've found, is to moisten them thoroughly with oil before assembly.

Rubber over the cam at each end and paper the rest.

It's not under any pressure. Any of the chemical sealants will help.

CAUTION: A badly leaking cam cover can dump enough oil on the exhaust to ignite!

always have a new spare one......then you can see if you can reuse the old one... if you can't, you always have a new one
