When I see a 944 I think: Problems.
When I see a 924 I think: Potential.

When I see a stock 944, I see butt-ugly 80s styling and plastic everywhere. When Shaggy sees one, he sees a victim. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I've seen the 944 many times, had a few buddies with them. But since i was a kid and saw a 924 I always liked it better. I understand the 944 was "improved" and had a bigger motor, etc... and the interior looked "more sporty". But every time I looked in the engine bay of a 944 I went *gag* "Oh my god."
This 924 has been one of the easiest vehicles thus far I've probably ever worked on. Now, granted it's been a steep learning curve to understand the CIS system.... in general, things like the belts, the plugs, the brakes, the interior, the wiring, etc... it's really not been too bad at all. I'd rather work on this sucker than my Ducati. Or my Ninja 250. Or my Escort ZX2. Hell, this thing has been CHEAPER to get parts for than my Escort ZX2!
I'll agree. Although of course you get into that whole "Porsche" parts thing and the price for anything with the name. But then again I didn't buy this car as I was under the assumption it would be cheap, just like I never bought a Ducati with the assumption "Oh it's a SuperSport it'll be cheap!", on the contrary... there's a price to pay for things you love. But I've wanted a 924 for the longest time, but I'm glad I got a 924 over a 944. It's been super easy to work on and I can't wait to get this sucker running! I've noticed the crowd here has been very helpful and a bunch of intelligent individuals who know them top to bottom. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

I look at a 944 and think: Donor
Then again, I think of my 924 as having the best of both worlds. Lighter than a standard 924/944 thanks to the fiberglass bodywork, with the (imho) better interior styling. _________________ Stefan

well i've had both 924 / 944. 924S and 944 being basicly the same car I like the 944 wider body better. 924 stock tires look way too skinny.
924S with upgrades wheels (turbo twists) looks nice. I also like the 924 turbo with two tone paint job.
944 with late interior is much nicer / more comfortable.
to most people the 924 / 944 look the same though. |

hows the 944 butt ugly 80s styling with plastic everywhere when it's basicly a 924 with fender flares minus those circular reflectors.
I think the fender flares make it look much more aggressive and also looks less like a rx7. |

I agree. I'd trade my 931 for a 951 in a second
The only benefit I see to the 924 is the lighter weight. A clean turbo 944 looks bad ass, and can be a lot faster. _________________ 1981 931 |

I truly enjoyed owning a 924, but after a year in the drivers seat of my 944S there's no way I could go back. _________________ 82 - 924 Gone, but not forgotten.

I like both for different reasons. I like the styling of the 944 (interior and "more aggressive looking" exterior). I like simplicity of the 924; it's like the minimalist approach and is great fun to drive around (plus it doesn't have the extra weight). I kind of wish I had a 924T rather than the 924S since there's more you can do with it, but my 924S is great fun and has been very reliable thus far (knock on wood).
I'm not sure if my next car will be a 912, 914 or 951. All are great for different reasons. _________________ 1988 924S Navy Blue - Phone Dials |

Yeah, My 931 is probably the funnest car I have ever driven. Super light and nimble with good power. It almost wants to speed on the freeway, and makes for a very confident ride at even 100 mph plus. _________________ 1981 931 |

when i see a 924....i see old and perhaps simple...good for touring, but bad in trafic due to the heavy clutch...no power steering fumes..etc etc. The 931 is the same story...just that is a lot faster.
The 924 CGT..my car being some sort of a replica...is an absolutely superb touring car and amaising on the track but dezastrous in the city....big car...fat tires...no power steering....you sit lower than anyone in the trafic...often you cant see other cars because of that....no AC....fumes....you cant really go everywhere because you'll get the nose pinned or even worse...the belly....you care too much to let it unsupervised as someone might rub it or scratch it...in one word...terrible.
When i see the 944....i see a newer...more confortable and easyer to drive 924....being not a rare car i would not care that much if it were to get rubbed or scratched....but still.
I'd swap my CGT-replica for a 951 too....aldough...the sexyest of them all is the CGT....and perhaps i'd swap 924+CGT rear flares on it. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

your car looks more like a 951 to me because of the turbo twists and front end.
also I think a 924 feels "faster" than a 944, maybe it's because of the manual steering or less sound deading and more noisy.
944 isn't really much faster than a 924 at least doesn't feel like it but the motor sounds nicer and feels better/ smoother.
Also depends what 944 your talking about 944S2 with 3l engine is a big improvement and would be faster than a 931 so would a 951.
I like the 931 also just because it's so rare. I see 944s all the time haven't seen one 931 driving down the road yet, most are probably in the junkyard or on jackstands. |

When I see a 924 I smile and appreciate the view.
When I see a 944 (or any Porsche apart from the Cayenne, 914 and 924) I wish I had the willpower and strength to handle all that extra horsepower and performance without risking my license every day. |
