Quick one for the guru's...
I have just started the beast again after eight or nine months. As usual, starts first turn of the key and purrs like a kitten.
However, the clutch doesn't seem to be working. There's good pressure on the pedal and fluid in the reservoir. In short, it feels good, looks good... just doesn't engage! It was working fine before I parked it up but it hasn't really moved for better than 18 months.
Anything simple I should look for first (that might be obvious to those who know but escape me)? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

didnt you leave it to your brother ? thats the problem
i would think it got sticked...stucked...if the pedal feels right...try looking trough that inspection hole while having someone pressing the pedal. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

A common problem from sitting unused for a while is the disc and pressure plate or flywheel get stuck together - but that would mean the clutch doesn't dis-engage. Could that be the problem? With the gearbox in neutral, the engine will start. -But if you put it in gear, (also apply the e-brake and depress the clutch pedal) then try starting, and it doesn't go, then the disc is stuck to the plate and/or flywheel. To get it unstuck, activate the starter repeatedly until it breaks free. (Make sure there's no-one in the way and there's room in front or behind the car (put it in 1st if the area ahead is clear, or in reverse if it's clear behind).) _________________ "..it's made in Germany. High gear is safer, less chance of the car actually moving. Just remember to keep the clutch pedal on the floor the whole time you are cranking it. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Libellous slander, I'll not hear a word of it! Goodna Heights is a wonderful suburb!

Thank you all. You were exactly right. I suspected that the problem was something like that, just wanted the experts to confirm it for me Solved now.
We did do it a little unconventionally, though... because the car was at the bottom of a reasonably steep driveway, and we didn't really rate ourselves as a good chance to push it up safely, and towing it out would've been a hassle, too, we actually just put the rear up on jack stands and put the ol' right boot on the brake as we cranked it. Popped free immediately!
Thanks again. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |
